Initially, I had great hopes for this router. Small and unobtrusive, it has decent network speed and passable range (up to 10m through 1 wall and two floors). A definite plus is that it not only works with many 3G USB stick modems, but it also can also connect to the internet via certain mobile phones when they’re plugged into the USB port at the back: my Nokia was recognised and used without trouble. However, although it claims to allow VPN passthrough, the current firmware (ver. 1.0.6) does not support PPTP VPN connections unless one disables the router’s security firewall. This makes this router a less attractive option for users who need to VPN into a corporate network this way. Zoom assured me that future firmware will fix this, but haven’t said when that will be.

This is a great product. The mobile coverage at home is patchy at best and trying to get the USB dongle to work in the laptop is very frustrating. With this product I can stick the USB dongle on the window (where it gets a decent signal) and run a USB cable to the Zoom box that sits on the window sill. The Zoom box then creats a normal wireless network that all my PC’s, ipods, etc can connect to.
Set up was a piece of cake. Just follow the wizzard and everything worked first time.
Brilliant 5 out of 5 !

This is a good modem. I installed 2 of them mainly for an upload application. Worked first time with minimal configuration and seems to be fairly robust in retaining 3G signal. It has a good strong wifi signal. I will update my post if I experience anything different. A word of warning, this router (and most other routers), will not work with all dongles. Check the compatibility carefully before you buy this or any router.

Bought this for friends who have mobile broadband.
When they could connect the broadband was fine but connection could be a problem indoors.
With this they could set it up on a windowsill where the signal was good and then connect to the router via wireless.
After trying a few different windows to find the best signal they were left with a signal that was much more reliable.
They are very happy with this.

My attempts to create MiFi router using Hauwei e1752 (Orange) and linux box (Ubuntu server 32bit Lucid) have failed. I was able to configure dongle and linux to work but every 2 – 3 days dongle was hanging up causing some USB driver problems. Reconnect was not possible unless full power down and boot.
So I have bought this baby.
Works perfect with Hauwei e1752, very easy to configure, web admin is very responsive and easy to navigate. All the goodies inside, WiFi encryption, MAC filtering, configurable DHCP, packet filtering, DMZ. NAT etc, Connects mobile network faster then software that was supplied by provider. WiFi rage very good. Box stays cool all the time. Compared to my previous Linksys it is a freezer. VPN works fine.
