I’ve been using Yamaha AV amps for many years. This one is a slight step down for me, but nevertheless I chose the Yam over the Onkyo. I found it straight forward to set up and the amp did a good job of sorting out it’s own levels for the speakers. I’ve never used small effects speakers prefering the traditional piece of furniture size of speaker. But the RXV765 takes it in it’s stride, despite the lack of weight to the power supply.
I’ve docked a star because I the AV inputs leave me bewildered as to why I cannot use the perfect mix of sound cable and video cable for me and my equipment. As newer stuff comes with HDMI I guess this will be less of an issue. The upscaling is good enough, but I suspect it is partly because the TV [ASIN:B00284C9ZA Panasonic TX-P42V10B 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p Plasma TV with Freesat HD & Viera Cast (Installation Recommended)] does a great job.
