This is a great bit of kit. Has a built-in DVI socket but comes with converters for VGA and HDMI.

I installed the Mac OSX drivers from the DisplayLink website before plugging it in.

Thats it… then it works just like an extra graphics card.

An extra Screen for my laptop, and I can run two projectors for presentations.

Thinking of getting another one!

The unit arrived in very impressive (Apple like) packaging with a good, well translated manual. The required drivers are found on an enclosed CD (one of the small ones that don’t fit slot loading drives). The unit itself is about the size of a pack of cards and looks well made. There is a USB cable together with the various converters. The audio connector converts a standard audio jack into a pair of RCA connections. The box says that the product works with Windows 7 and there is a Windows 7 driver on the supplied CD.

I loaded the software apparently successfully and attached the unit. To cut a very long story short, after trying for several hours to make the unit work and uninstalling and reinstalling the software I eventually let Windows 7 find the latest version of the drivers online. These installed and (unlike the driver on the CD) promptly told me that it was incompatible with my video card. I later found a set of release notes on the CD (these are not mentioned in the printed documentation or on the installer) relating to the Windows 7 drivers. These said that the drivers were BETA (preview) quality and should not be used on a production unit. They also listed a large number of limitations and known issues; many relating to common video cards like mine. Almost nothing in the manual is relevant to Windows 7, but this is not made clear except in these well-hidden notes. One other point; the notes mention that the LED on the unit doesn’t function under Windows 7; without knowing this I spent some time thinking that the unit itself might have been faulty.

This could be a really good product; perhaps it is under Windows XP or Vista; but at the moment it cannot be recommended for Windows 7 users. Note to the manufacturer: a slip in the box drawing attention to the Windows 7 release notes would save a lot of misery; as would a list of video cards with which the unit works as advertised.

Very good product does what i wonted it to do, one monitor just for web surfing.

Don’t expect it to work with 3d apps or games it’s not designed for that,

it has trouble playing full screen video playback using quick time player, youtube videos play very well but not in full screen,

Word processing works great using it as a pallet tray in painting programs,

Just don’t think of using it for flight simulator games it wont work

Built in sound card works to

But it works for what i want it for and i am very happy with it
