Product Description
Where can I Top Up? You can buy £15 TopUps from any Vodafone Retail store or many other retailers. £15 will get you 1GB of data which has no expiry date so you can take as long as you need to use it. System requirements: Laptop or PC with Microsoft Windows XP or Vista / At least 50MB of free disk space and 256MB RAM Mac Support: PLEASE NOTE THAT VF TOPUP AND GO MOBILE BROADBAND WILL NOT SUPPORT THE APPLE MAC AT LAUNCH ON DEC 1. Apple macs will be supported in late release in march 2009
I bought this for use in our motorhome. (Had tried Datawind pocketsurfer which was very disappointing). I have Broadband at home so do not want a monthly contract mobile one as well.
I chose Vodafone a)because my Vodafone phone works at all the places we usually visit on holidays and b)it is PAYG and the money does not expire after a month as some others appear to do.
The dongle just installs itself, no CD software needed, and away you go. I tried it at home on my computer and laptop. No problems on either although I have not been away yet in the motorhome with laptop and dongle. (I will update this when I have used it on holiday!)
My one disappointment (hence only 4 stars) is that you can not use it abroad. I wanted to use it in Europe this summer. Vodafone’s monthly contract mobile BB can be used abroad so if they are reading this, please make the PAYG one international too.
I am convinced that mobile Broadband is going to be VERY popular and this one is ideal if you don’t want a contract for whatever reason.
(NB this is July -have used dongle lots of times for emails & webpages & still have over £13.50 left of the £15 it came with. BUY it.)

We wanted to be able to pick up emails while on holiday without being tied into a contract so this dongle was ideal. It was easy and reasonably quick to set up. It worked well, if a little slow, once we found the right direction to point it (we were in a poor mobile reception area). We are hoping for same result on our next holiday. N.B. Air time is valid for 6 months, not indefinately.

In the good old days when you purchased a top up it would last and this would be ideal for the occasional usage, covering normal broadband in the home etc. But recently Vodafone have changed the terms and conditions, meaning that any top up expires after 30 days. Thus you have to purchase a new top up every 30 days. This is very poor from Vodafone and means that it is hardly a pay as you go deal any longer – really it’s the same as a contract, having to pay again every month. So if you are thinking of purchasing one of these dongles beware of what you are letting yourself get into.

I purchased this mobile broadband dongle to use with my netbook in the event of having no Wi-fi or LAN connection. I thought this product would be solution. I bought this product on the basis that it said my top would not expire for 6 months. Imagine my horror when I was sent the new dongle with updated software that meant my top-up only lasted for 30 days. I think Vodafone are trying to get people to subscribe to a monthly contract by making the top-up fee the same as a monthly contract. Sorry Vodafone – you offer a great service for my telephone and messaging needs but the new T&Cs for the broadband dongle is an unpopular move.

had this a couple of weeks now not very impressed . goes on G3 at start but then switches to GPRS which is slow . the reason I gave it three stars is because the credit doesn’t expire , so until the software and coverage is hopefully sorted not going to cost much .
