Bought this to go with my new toshiba Tv, its got excellent upscaling technology to 1080p and you can play downloaded films through the usb slot. Fantastic colours and depth. Disney’s cars is almost Blue Ray standard…honestly. Excellent purchase for the money!

When my old Toshiba SD-220E Multiregional DVD Player refused to play any more DVDs or CDs I realised it was time to retire “old faithful” and get a new DVD player fast. After reviewing the features available I decided on the Toshiba SD-590 Multiregional Player with upscaling.
The first thing that surprised me, when the player arrived, was how light it was, my old SD-220E is a tank by comparison. The next thing was ease of installation, as my various cables were already in place, I just replaced my old player with the new SD-590. And that was that, the player worked first time and played my first couple of DVDs without any problems. And I did not have to go into the player’s setup menu to do anything extra, it just worked
One small point to consider, I found that the SD-590’s response times (from pressing a command on the remote to the player performing that action) were slightly slower than my old SD-220E but not so much that would cause much concern.
Finally, I would recommend this player to anyone that does not want to be limited to only playing Region 2 DVDs. Not only that, there are enough extra facilities available to keep those technically inclined moderately happy.
As for me, I’m just happy that I have a new multiregional player that slipped effortlessly into the space vacated by my dear departed SD-220E.

Needed a multi-region DVD player as I moved to the UK with a stack of region 1 DVDs and wanted to buy some locally. This DVD player works exactly as advertised. Great picture, easy to use, well worth the money.

Good player, appears to do what it says on the tin. Upscaling provides an impressive image via HDMI link to my Toshiba 37inch LCD TV; Regaza interface works fine. Coax audio output provides excellent quality sound via my (real) HiFi; recommended. Not all features explored but very happy with it so far.
