I purchased this to allow me to play video files direct, to save having to convert them to DVD. After reading some reviews I was a little worried that I made a mistake, as the review and the documentation said that it would only accept a 4Gb USB flash drive and that the largest file it would play was 1Gb. I can confirm that this is out of date information, as I connected my 125Gb USB disk drive and played larger than IGb files without difficulty. However it is important that the drive is formatted FAT32 as my other USB drive formatted NTFS wouldn’t play, but once reformatted FAT32, everything was fine.

The video quality is excellent, you can really see the difference between this and my old Sony DVD recorder. All in all a great purchase.

For the price it’s a real bargain and unlike so many devices with a remote control this remote actually works well and is very responsive even from quite a distance and angle, I mention this first because it’s a real pet hate of mine as so many remotes I’ve had are barely usable unless your a few feet away and standing right in front the machine!

Compared to some other DVD players I’ve had this one loads discs quite quickly and plays all the CD-R/DVD-R’s I’ve tried with no problems, it has the Toshiba REGZA system which means you can control the DVD player using a REGZA compatible Toshiba TV remote and that’s one reason I bought this player as I have a Toshiba flat screen and the TV’s remote does indeed operate the player quite well.

As another reviewer rightly stated the information in the handbook about what media via the USB port can be played is incorrect or maybe just out of date as I have found that just about all formats that can be played on disc can also be played via the USB port when using a USB memory stick or also a USB card reader and SD memory card including SDHC cards, I’ve used a 16GB SDHC card plugged into a USB card reader and the player finds it and reads it perfectly well, so if you don’t have a USB port on your TV or if like my TV the USB port will only handle jpeg pictures and not video you can via the USB port on the player watch video from memory cards plugged into a USB card reader or a USB memory stick.

I can’t think of any reason why anyone would be disappointed with this player and have to give it 5 stars.
