As I understand, Robert Crumb, the creator of Fritz the Cat was very disappointed with the animation adaptation of his filthy-minded feline. I have to agree with him – Fritz the Cat is poor taste, unfunny and tediously done – but I wonder if it put him off watching The Nine Lives…if so he’s made a huge mistake.

Nine Lives is brilliant – a caustic portrayal of then-contempory America, seen through the eyes of a disaffected, perveted Welfare-cat. It covers racism, incest, economic depression and a fabulously decayed imagining of the last hours of the Third Reich.

Buy it – it’s funny, scathing and mind-bending with a glorious psychedelic funk soundtrack.

To list everything that goes on in this movie, Fritz’s adventure through his past lifes, the cat who Fritz is and everything, he just plays it as cool as.

He’s very funny, in a sick sorta way…

“Made me laugh”!

This film is satire at it’s best, Fritz is free and wild, reminds me of the American dream, well, the seedy side to it, which I like, because, it was allowed to be produced.

Missed this when first made. Appeals to my sense of humour though definitely non PC which is also a plus.

Not as raw as the orginals but amusing & more rounded as a film – sort of Fitz tamed!

Certainly a great intro for those meeting Fritz for the first time.
