The new NU Dolphin from New Universe Technologies is an MP3 player tailored for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. The design concept is to create a portable music device that can be worn by swimmers and other water sport athletes while keeping the impact on their athletic performance to minimum. The NU design team come up with this ultra light weight ultra compact player that weighs only 25g with a dimension of 60 x 21 x 21mm. Its cylindrical-shaped casing features a minimalist outlook with all control buttons located on one side and the headphone jack on the other side. The earphone attaches to the player via a special screw-in jack to keep the device water-tight. Both the earphone and the player were tested to comply with IPx7 international water resistant standard. The earphone employs a special non-woven fabric membrane to keep the speaker vibration plate dry while maintaining a high quality sound output. The earpieces are attached with a soft silicon earplug that fits snugly in the ears. The earplugs not only keep the earphones dry but also prevent the earphones from coming loose during vigorous activities. Operating time for the NU Dolphin is roughly 8 hours when fully charged and recharging time is about 1.5 hours. Recharging (and file downloading) can be done via USB port. Initial release of the NU Dolphin is designed to be worn on swimmer goggles; there will also be an optional armband for surfing and other activities. Well its finally here nearly 2.5 years in the making we are now totally certain it has been worth the wait. Featuring all of Graham Slees knowledge and the know how to apply it we have a mini (portable) headphone amplifier (battery USB and plug top powered) that can take any line level source amplify and improve it to give real volume and kick to any headphones or earphones. With a form the size of an IPod Classic (6th generation) but being thicker the IPod can sit easily in the front recess of the Voyager mating together to create a formidable partnership. A number of other Pod players also fit. A separately available 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable allows the headphone out of the player to go into the line in giving excellent results and superb volume and bass. However when you buy a port to 3.5mm adapter bypassing the amp circuits of the Pod player and there inferior digital volume control this allows the Voyager to really impress. We compared it against newer and older model Solos and we liked greatly what we heard. The Voyager is light weight similar in feel to that of a classic pod player and comes fitted street-wear contour switch that is designed to improve the tonal range of street-wear headphones. For use with domestic and studio players that use Hi-Fi or studio headphones the flat position is generally more appropriate. The Voyager can be used in the office taking its input from line-out sources like the 3.5mm jack on many computers. Some quirks, 19 Feb 2010

I bought this as a replacement for a “one hour fast-charger” that I think hasn’t been properly charging my batteries.
It works, but it seems to have some oddities, unless my unit is slightly faulty. I checked all my recharagable batteries (mainly AAs) to see if they all worked OK. I went through them all discharging and charging and then discharging (in a torch or two). I found that when I took the batteries out of a torch that had been left on all night the charger would sometimes reject them (flashing red light), apparently it didn’t like any cells that had very low residual voltages (less than a 100mV or so). Usually, by leaving the battery in for a while and trying again the prioblem was overcome, but a bit of a pain. But when it charges it seems to work. Some batteries I thought might be duff seemed actually to be fine, but because of the lower voltage produced by these cells (1.25 approx) one of my digital cameras reported them as flat (which for it they were) but they still worked fine in other devices.
Also, a part charged, warm, battery can be rejected if removed and reinserted, seems to need to cool down.
And I was surprised how long a just-charged (unused) battery would appear to need charging if it were reinserted in the charger.
But it is nice to have a charger that you can put in odd combinations of numbers and cell sizes.

Duracell charger:
Pros:
- Good size and weight to it. It does not feel cheaply made even though it is plastic. Hinged lid with an oval gap in it to avoid overheating. Seperate plug which makes it easy to place charger. Main batteries are held in place by sprung loaded compartments
- Individual lights for each battery. Each battery is assigned an led charging light so makes charging indvidual batteries a plus
- Charges individual batteries
- Charger avoids overcharging cells
- 110 – 240v ac can be used overseas
Possible Cons:
There are no major flaws that i am aware of as it does everything i need it to (only used AA and AAA in the charger)…
- Obviously not a quick charger, will take about 4 to 6 hours for most batteries. So if you do not need batteries fast it is not a con. Just stock up on some rechargables and keep them ready in the charger, duracell supremes are cheap on marketplace, so stock up.

Am a bit annoyed that the product description mentions nothing of the fact that it comes with a 2 pin euro plug despite being despatched from the UK.
