Presenting the Travel Diaries of Karl Pilkington: Adventurer. Philosopher. Knob head. Karl Pilkington isn’t keen on travelling. Given the choice, he’ll go on holiday to Devon or Wales or, at a push, eat English food on a package holiday in Majorca. Which isn’t exactly Michael Palin, is it? So what happened when he was convinced by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant to go on an epic adventure to see the Seven Wonders of the World? Travel broadens the mind, right? You’d think so…

Good value LCD frame, By
This review is from: Sony DPFA710B 7 Inch LCD Photo Frame (Electronics)
This is an excellent LCD frame from a major manufacturer. It has a number of features that certainly a year ago would have been regarded as high-end options. Plus points are: 1. Inbuilt memory so you don’t have to buy a memory card (but note storage space is limited) And finally the picture is pretty good as well. Good colours, good resolution and a fairly bright display. At the price an excellent Sony product.

Great and simple, By
BOYMS (Derbyshire, UK) – See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony DPFA710B 7 Inch LCD Photo Frame (Electronics)
After hankering after a digital photo frame for a while I stumbled across this one on special offer – not a lot off, but worth a try! Anyway, it arrived and my first impression was how smart it looked with it’s piano black finish and slimline depth. Plugging it in and inserting the SD card straight out of my camera was the next step and “bingo”… a very clear image appeared on the screen, and I mean very clear, stayed for almost 10 seconds before the next image appeared. Clearly the default setting was a slideshow and after pushing a few buttons on the remote control handset (supplied) I was straight in to ‘navigating’ around the menu with great ease – it was so logically simple – rotating images, pausing the slideshow, scrolling through the images, you name it! The same can be done from the back of the picture frame which I think is useful if you lose, break or can’t be bothered with the remote. Another thing I like about this frame is that if you rotate the unit from ‘landscape’ to ‘portrait’, a sensor inside realises you’ve done this and rotates your image accordingly. The other ‘little’ nice touch is the small SONY logo that appears at the bottom of the picture frame… a tad ‘anal’ I know, but quirky and, in my opinion, doesn’t look too intrusive or cheesy.

Good features but poor picture quality,
This review is from: Sony DPFA710B 7 Inch LCD Photo Frame (Electronics)
The frame comes with lots of features such as, a remote control, lots of display settings, and an orientation sensor. However, I found the picture quality was much poorer than I’d expected. Also, it’s worth knowing that if you want to link to a computer it appears you need to buy your own USB cable. |

Black comedies don’t come much blacker than cult favourite, Harold and Maude (1972), and they don’t come much funnier either. It seems that director Hal Ashby was the perfect choice to mine a load of eccentricity from the original Colin Higgins script, about the unlikely romance between a death-obsessed 19-year-old named Harold (Bud Cort) and a life-loving 79-year-old widow named Maude (Ruth Gordon). They meet at a funeral, and Maude finds something oddly appealing about Harold, urging him to “reach out” and grab life by the lapels as opposed to dwelling morbidly on mortality. Harold grows fond of the old gal–she’s a lot more fun than the girls his mother desperately tries to match him up with- -and together they make Harold and Maude one of the sweetest and most unconventional love stories ever made. Much of the early humour arises from Harold’ s outrageous suicide fantasies, played out as a kind of twisted parlour game to mortify his mother, who has grown immune to her strange son’s antics. Gradually, however, the film’s clever humour shifts to a brighter outlook and finally arrives at a point where Harold is truly happy to be alive. Featuring soundtrack songs by Cat Stevens, this comedy certainly won’t appeal to all tastes (it was a box-office flop when first released), but if you’re on its quirky wavelength, it might just strike you as one of the funniest films you’ve ever seen. –Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

It doesn’t take long, does it? One moment Bond is wielding some achingly cool gadget, and before you know it it’s on the IWOOT website. Q’s furious of course. The Spy Video Watch is literally indistinguishable from a normal (and actually quite swanky) watch, but the crucial difference is that you can craftily record video and take photos thanks to the almost-invisible camera hidden in the number ‘2’ of the watch face. In fact, all the features on this genius little watch are extremely well-hidden. There’s a microphone and an LED indicator on there somewhere too, but they’re sufficiently unnoticeable for you to get on with the very important business of mucking about. The video quality is pretty amazing for such a tiny camera, and you’ll have no-end of fun trying to catch people up to no good (if that’s what you like doing). The stills are excellent too, so any Top Secret documents you might happen upon won’t go un-snapped (though it’s just as handy if you see Neville from accounts picking his nose and need some blackmail material? the choice is yours). The rechargeable lithium-ion battery is good for about 2 hours continuous sleuthing (with a full charge of 2-3 hours). It’s got a whopping 2GB capacity as well, so you don’t have to worry about clogging it up with pictures of your upside-down face, and getting your vids and pics off the watch and onto your computer is easy. Just plug the included USB cable into a port and treat it in the same way you would any other digital camera – your recordings will then be ready to upload to YouTube or send to whichever client you’re doing some private work for. Because it’s such a convincing watch as well (it tells the time and everything!), you’ll be able to snap and film all you like – and not a soul will know you’re doing it.
