On CD for the first time this fantastic full-cast radio adventure comes from esteemed producer Dirk Maggs director of “Superman: Doomsday and Beyond” and the recent radio episodes of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. ; ; Batman has been crippled by his fiercest foe ever Bane: a villain of superhuman strength cunning and evil. With Bruce Wayne confined to a wheelchair who will protect the innocent from the dangerous inmates of Arkham Asylum whom Bane has released? ; ; This stunning audio production was first aired on BBC Radio 1. The cliffhanging all-action adventure can now be heard uninterrupted – with dazzling sound effects specially composed orchestral music and all. You’ve ‘never’ heard a comic sound like this! ; ; Comment by Dirk Maggs ; ; When it was first suggested we should make action dramas in daily three minute episodes I was pretty scared but willing to give it a try. There was a lot of gloomy predictions of failure but once we got into our stride it seemed to work pretty well and it was a format which could be slotted in between the chart records on BBC Radio 1. Also the first real effort to get to grips with Dolby Surround was `Batman Knightfall” which we made for BBC Radio 1 in 1994. ; ; The idea was to create an atmospheric mood which would be quite scary. Paul Deeley did some amazing sound mixing but some of the effects mixing and panning aren’t as focussed as we would do it now on Dolby 5.1. ; ; To be honest everything I have done I would improve if I could go back and do it again … we are all the same perfectionists who – but for deadlines – might never finish a job! ; ; A quick word for Bob Sessions who played our Batman. What a great presence he has what a wonderful voice. And he Was Batman in a uniquely urbane way. My ambition was to do Frank Miller’s `The Dark Knight Returns with him … sadly it was not to be – dear Bob died before it could happen. Thank you Bob.

Focused on the madcap lives of flatmates Vince (Sean Lock) and Errol (Benedict Wong), the first series of the critically acclaimed BBC comedy Fifteen Stories High craftily points out the eccentricities of the modern world. Vince is an oddball with the habits of a man who has spent too much time in his own company. A lifeguard at the local swimming pool, he takes great pride in being able to tell swimmers off for no reason, and obtains his home decorating ideas from photos in Readers’ Wives. His lodger, Errol is the opposite of Vince, naively stupid and always taken advantage of by others. But he has his own unusual habits, too, such as tearing at wallpaper whenever he sees an unstuck corner. Vince has the weirdest encounters, though: such as being locked in the stocks for six hours when wrongly accused of killing a swan; or taken hostage by a neighbour when he spies a moon-boot wearing Shetland pony in the man’s spare bedroom.
Equally as funny are the short stories of the other residents living in the tower block that are interspersed between the antics of Vince and Errol. Enclosed within the four walls of different flats on the estate, these claustrophobic locations provide the ideal settings for the extreme behaviours depicted. There’s the hygiene obsessive who forces a visiting double-glazing salesman to take a bath and wear a protective suit before being able to look round his flat; the old man who spends all night in front of a mirror in a pair of underpants pretending he’s James Bond; and a New Age enthusiast who’s always getting disturbed when recording relaxation tapes. The general weirdness of the series takes some getting used to, but once you decipher the crazy world of Vince and Errol this is five-star comedy with a dark tinge. –John Galilee

It’s just the thing that Harry Potter could use while watching TV at Hogwarts – a wand that changes channels or turns down the volume at the flick of a wrist.
And this buttonless remote control certainly seems to have magic properties because it has just attracted the largest investment in the history of Dragons’ Den, BBC2’s entrepreneurial reality series.
Entrepreneurs Chris Barnardo and Richard Blakesley accepted a £200,000 offer from tough-talking Duncan Bannatyne for their Kymera Wand on the hit show. – Dail Mail
If you or your precious offspring are obsessed with a certain bespectacled boy wizard, you’ll no-doubt already have wands lying about the house. This one, however, is totally different to anything you will have waggled before – it can control the telly. In fact, it can control most things that require a remote control, making its wielder appear to be able to perform some pretty incredible leisure-orientated magic tricks, and you won’t even need to spout gibberish spells to do it.
After you’ve learnt the basics (it takes a few practice sweeps to get the hang of it), you’ll be able to programme your wand to control the volume, channel, brightness or whatever your remote can do. A turning motion (it’s all in the wrist) will control the volume, a sweep up or down will move the channel forward or back a step, and even double-tapping on the side will perform whatever you assign it. In all there are 13 different swooshes, sweeps and swoops to learn, and each one can be given a separate task to complete. All you have to do is put your wand into ‘learning mode’ by giving it a quick tap on the shaft, perform the move you want, and then press the corresponding key on your remote – the wand remembers it and performs it next time you do the same move.
It’s difficult to emphasise how much fun this is, and how cool the effect is when you’re merrily commanding all and sundry around you. The Hi-Fi, the TV, the computer, the lights (if you’re fancy enough to have remote control lights), anything that needs flicking on or off in the room can be controlled by a wave of your wand. Indeed, if you’re even slightly interested in anything vaguely wizard-related then you owe it to yourself to get one of these – great fun, ingenious technology and an impressive effect. Top it off with a beautiful faux-dragonskin box with Chinese silk inlay and you’ve got a superb little package, perfect for the wannabe wizard in your life.
Features:
- The Wand Remote Control allows you to control remote devices with a swish.
- Most devices that use a remote control can be manipulated with the wand – TVs, Hi-Fis etc.
- Can control multiple devices, not limited to one.
- 13 commands in total can be learned by the Wand.
- Programme the wand by putting it in learning mode, performing an action and pressing the corresponding key on the remote control.
- Learns via infrared codes from remote control.
- Comes packaged in its own beautifully decorated case.
- Please note: instructions for the wand are only available in English.
Full range of actions:
- Rotate clockwise.
- Rotate anticlockwise.
- Flick upwards.
- Flick downwards.
- Flick left.
- Flick right.
- Tap on top.
- Tap on side.
- Double tap on top.
- Double tap on side.
- Push forward.
- Pull back.
- Big swish.
- Suitable for ages 8 years +, or anyone old enough to enrol at Hogwarts.
