Review by Mr. Jamie S. Fletcher for Sweet House of Horrors (Beyond Terror) [DVD] [1989]
Rating: (2 / 5)
Let me start by saying I’m a huge fan of Lucio Fulci. This is a made for tv movie, whats more amazing is that it was actually shown! The sad thing with this title is that it opens really well, there are two graphic murders. Brains, blood and an eyeball! Then it turns into a terrible mess of dull dialogue, dull events and terrible special effects. The ending is rather bizzare too, mechanical diggers and a very very odd looking priest type charcter. By this point the Italian film industry was practically over, hence why so many directors started doing tv work. It’s a shame this doesn’t work, it has potential. The other Fulci title in this series ‘House Of Clocks’ is quite enjoyable, unlike this! For ardent Fulci fans only!

Made as one of a set of 4 TV movies. 2 Were made by Lucio Fulci the other 2 by Umberto Lenzi. I cannot imagine what was going on in Fulci’s head when he made this movie. As it truly is utter dross. The story loses both pace and the plot after about 15 minutes. For me there was not a moment that I even enjoyed. It showed a touch of promise at the start but ended up looking like the artwork of a five year old child.
For a Fulci completist it’s a must, but to complete a collection would be the only justification for this. His other work of the same period House Of Clocks was far superior. But the classic Fulci reign of horror ended with New York Ripper.
