I got a £40 off voucher for a Sony S370 blu ray player from Tesco, so I got that at a bargain price, then I read that with a LAN adaptor I could access online extras. In for a penny, in for a pound I thought. Went on Sony’s website, £68.08 all in, next day delivery, terrific. No, at the checkout it was £99.98 and delivery in 2-4 weeks hrmph. Back to old faithful Amazon, ordered Monday afternoon, arrived Wednesday morning (Thanks K+K) Plugged it in and it’s fantastic!! Easy to install (stick it into the USB port)and off you go, I have had so much fun exploring the extras it has been worth every penny. If you have a Blu Ray player that you can hook up to the net do so! If you have a wireless network then invest in this item, you won’t be sorry.

As Sony have made their Blu-Ray player incompatible with any other Wireless adapter, this really is the only option open for you. However, that said, it’s easy to set up, easy to use, even on low wireless reception you get full speed video.

The additional services via Sony are great too. BBCi Player, Demand5, You Tube, etc. Hopefully, in the near future the other UK channels will add their On Demand Services, but you can;t ask for too much at the early stage of Internet TV services.

You can even sign up for LoveFilm to watch via the Wireless connection. Not much use if you have the Sky Package for Movies, but still worth a punt for the odd random film.

If you have a Wireless LAN ready TV or Blu-Ray player, this extra is a must. If the price drops it’ll be a bargain, but as Sony are currently giving money off their TV’s if you trade in your old one, it’s still worth it.

I recently purchased a Sony Bravia TV and Bluray player. The Internet feature was part of the attraction. Although the TV is described as “wireless ready”, it’s a bit cheeky of Sony not to make it totally clear that you still need to buy this dongle. I did look into powered ethernet, but the reviews were a bit mixed. So having spent £850 on the TV and Bluray, I thought I might as well finish the job and buy the dongle.

It works very well. Setup on the TV took about an hour, but having done that, the Bluray setup took 10 minutes. And it works just as you’d expect. My only disappointment doesn’t relate to the dongle, but you might want to be aware that the Bravia TV doesn’t support BBC iPlayer at the moment. But the Bluray does. Odd that. It works very well. We only have 2mb download speeds, but SD from the iPlayer works fine. HD does pause occasionally, but it’s worth it for the quality.

Overall, a good buy.

I purchased the adaptor through Amazon as I could not source one through any of the Sony outlet and also where I purchased the WiFi enabled Blue Ray player. The only down side is that you have to use the Sony Lan adaptor as their software will not allow anyother adaptor to work.

I managed to source mine through Bargin Bank and the service they gave both pre and post has been first class, Lionel kept me informed of the stock limits on order and found one within hours after Sony informed me that they didn’t know when they would be available. I was kept up to date and even notified by Lionel when the product had been dispatched.

The unit is now fitted and working to allow full use of my Blue Ray player, without it it would have been no better than my previous model.

First class service, well done…

Comet forgot to mention the Blu Ray BDP S370 needed an expensive dongle for wireless connectivity. Also, Sony don’t have a set-up tutorial for my Sitecom router…

Added:

We bought the dongle through Amazon and it arrived in the few days promised. Set-up was easier than I expected, given that the UWA-BR100 manual referred installation to the BDP-S370 manual and that basically said ‘Follow on-screen instructions’…

First, I set my router to transmit its station ID. Then I switched off and unplugged the S370 before connecting the dongle. After that I powered-up the S370 and followed its on-screen menu to select the channel number (1~~11) and scan for WiFi access points. After selecting mine, I put in the router’s ten hex character WPA access key using the S370 remote’s compass pad. Seconds later, the link was made. I downloaded the suggested software upgrade then the available media list. After we watched a bunch of movie trailers, I remembered to tell my router NOT to transmit station ID…
