I used this machine for recording interviews as part of my social science studies and, although considerably cheaper when I bought mine, it is a good basic tape recorder with good sound quality and an excellent range. I don’t see any point spending more money if this is the kind of thing you are going to use it for.

I purchased this item recently and am delighted wih the ease of use and quality of sound. It’s lightweight and good to look at too. I sing in a choir, and it’s perfect for recording rehearsals and reviewing performance between our practice nights.

Sony Compact Tape Recorder Silver
I used this recorder outside (in the field, literally) to record many
(c.200) hours of people building dry stone walls. I simply kept it in the breast pocket of my overalls
It worked in apalling conditions and although not waterproof was robust ehough to stand the conditions and replayed the data well enough for it to be typed up
It did not need a directional / tie clip microphone in fact an additional microphoe made the sound worse
for a basic piece of kit it did me very well indeed

This little machine is a fantastic bargain and good-looking with it. I am using it to help myself learn French and record points of grammar, vocabulary etc on it to listen to in the gym, bath or out walking. The voice reproduction is fine for this purpose and you do not need headphones to listen. It would help anyone learn anything and this method is much more interesting than merely revising from the original book. Simple to use and recoomended for ease and appearance.

The main problem with this piece of kit is that the recording microphone quality is very poor. Also a drawback is that there’s no AC input available, so frequent use is going to drain the batteries. Otherwise, a simple handheld recorder if that’s what you want.
