An excellent ebook reader, especially when combined with the SONY designed cover which includes an LED light. The contrast is good and I have used it in a number of different lighting conditions, including at night just using the cover light. The screen can reflect a bit if the light angle is wrong, but usually I have been able to find the right angle to avoid distracting reflections. The Touch is light enough to be used for long periods, and takes up less space than even a single paperback. Loading the ebooks, especially if you have bought several at once, can be a long-winded process, but once loaded you can switch quickly between them and it will retain your last page access for each of the books. A really useful aspect is being able to play your favourite music gently in the background while you are reading, without the need for a separate MP3 player, although this does eat into the battery life. The duration of the battery when used only for reading is very good (> 10 days), but constant access to the MP3 player app or search facility will tend to drain it a lot faster. I found I needed an external mains charger, rather than plugging it in to a laptop all the time. There are several available, but I use a charger with an internal battery which can be used to recharge the Touch even when there is no mains power available – now that is really useful. If you want to store your music collection as well as lots of books you will also need to purchase a large (2-4Gb) SD card, or you can use a SONY mini Memory Stick PRO.

Overall, this product does exactly what is says on the tin. A nice large (6″) display with good contrast, easy zoom facility, and page tracking for every book you have opened. My only critisism of the Ebook concept generally is the lack of access to lots of Ebooks in this country. Most UK sites will not allow access to a wide range of titles that are flagged for US markets only. There are sites (all US ones) that will allow such titles to be downloaded to a UK based laptop, but they take some finding. Check you can get the books you want before purchasing any EReader.

Amazon displayed this item as the silver model but in fact to my disapointment black is the only colour the book deposetory can supply, not happy paying more for the black model when I wanted silver. I am happy with the reader mostly, I find the screen a little shiny, it is however easy to move the reader to better position. I like all the features and they all seem easy to use I didnt use the manual in fact that was the hardest thing, finding the zipped manual to download, its easier to play around with it and you soon work things out for yourself. Its a good size to hold I have painful hands and ive not had a problem so far the back of the reader is slightly grippy so you can rest it on your leg or knee if holding it is hard going. I find the screen easiest to read in natural light though I have not tried it in the sun yet, but it works well in the light of the snow.

A real jem!

Makes reading a fresh pleasure. The ability to enlarge text, re-orientate text and the touch screen are excellent.

As always, well done Sony!
