THIS IS MY FOURTH PORTABLE DVD PLAYER,THE OTHERS WERE ALL PHILIPS.THE FIRST ONE WAS GREAT SO WHEN I WORE IT OUT
AFTER THREE YEARS I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE,THE NEXT ONE ONLY LASTED A FEW MONTHS & ITS REPLACEMENT NOT EVEN THAT LONG.SO IVE NOW GOT THE SONY & WHAT A FANTASTIC BIT OF KIT IT IS,BETTER PICTURE & SOUND PLUS ITS VERY LIGHT & YES
THE BATTERY WILL LAST FOR FIVE HRS.IN USE IT IS VERY QUIET ( GREAT WHEN LISTENING AT LOW LEVELS )PLUS IT HAS TWO
HEADPHONE OUTPUTS,ONE I SOMETIMES CONNECT TO A PAIR OF SMALL SPEAKERS TO GIVE A BIT MORE VOLLUME.IT PLAYS STANDARD DVDS PLUS ALL THE DVDS IVE RECORDED MYSELF ON MY PHILIPS +R RECORDER.THE ONLY DOWNSIDE I CAN FIND IS CHANGING THE SCREEN TO FULL SIZE FROM NORMAL IS A BIT TRICKY.I SOMETIMES USE THE SONY WIYH MY PROJECTOR AND
THE PICTURE IS MUCH SHARPER THAN THE PHILIPS DVD WAS.SO I THINK I WILL STICK WITH SONY FROM NOW ON & HOPE THEY
ARE AS GOOD WHEN I NEED A NEW ONE.

hi
we bought this portable DVD player for our 12 year old son to use on a long journey to scotland from lincolnshire this october. It was fantastic. The sound and picture qualitiy are amazing. It also has two headphone sockets so two people could listen at once. But most of all there is no massive battery to lug around, you can either charge it up by plugging it in to a standard socket or connect it to the cigarette lighter in the car. We didn’t have to have it plugged in the car as it lasts for 5 hours with one charge! we were amazed. The only very slight hitch is that it doesn’t have a carry case but that is a very small price to pay for all the other bonuses it has. An excellent choice and we would recommend spending a bit more and buying this player as it was well worth the cost.

Used ‘Which’ when looking for the DVD requested for our Grandson’s birthday. The Sony DVPFX730L definitely not the cheapest but is quite a solid feeling quality product with Sony history and hopefully this should provide several years of keeping the young one occupied any long car journey with battery life amonst the very best available on the market. Picture quality excellent for 7″ screen and sound quality perfectly acceptable for the use intended. Simple controls easily mastered by a 2 year old.

This is a good quality dvd player, picture quality excellent, control lay-out is well thought out. The small size is great, when you consider the batteries are enclosed, not like my previous model, where the batteries connect to the exterior of the unit.
I have not tested the full five hour runing time, but have played two film dvd’s ok.
The only thing I feel, that Sony, have not thought out: is the auto play. When you put a purchased film into the player, it play’s in full screen mode; however, if for example, you edit a film on Nero, or take a film from a dvd hard drive, on to a disc, then the player will auto play in the old format (4.3)
My opinion, the player should play auto 16.9 all the time, untill you select the older 4.3
By entering the menu, one can, by pressing a few buttons; select full screen (16.9) 0r the old 4.3 version; but the player will revert to 4.3 screen, once a nomal disc is changed.

I am quite pleased with this device, the disc reader and spinning is hardly noticeable as far as hearing is concerned, the device is well built and the button are well laid out although 5 of the buttons, index, display, menu, return & options are hard to press with your fingers. the DVD player also reads at a faster rate then my old Hyundai did, and the picture quality is very clear and precise, the audio is just as great as it was on my old Hyundai DVD player.
however shorter after i charged it up and played it, i already encountered a dead pixel near to top left, its barely noticeable however it did let down a very good product thus far.
it has 2 TV support sockets from a freeview box for example, the DVD player also has a usb port, unknown which version it runs, the on and off button is easy to use along with hold, the earphone jacks are clumsy but they do however keep the connector, connected tightly instead of it moving about which compensates.
its a very good device for DVD uses which works for me as i get bored in the car or even on my PC sometimes especially in the middle of something big. as far as i can tell, it plays all the DVD’s i have.
Revision: a week after purchase and a hardware problem already cropped up, for a short time it stopped playing the disc, it froze out all other command even switching the device off, it took at least 2 seconds before the screen turned off.
In addition to this however is the quiet spinning device is not so quiet after some use, its already noticeable even listening to DVD’s. It’s still solid at this point but i am now skeptical of its life cycle however.
Revision 2: after some further setup changes, it seems the inbuilt software saves the last disc read point however it seems to forget to keep aspect ratio after every pause or save load up, it’s quite annoying to say the least.
Revision 3: after a month usage, the dvd player is having trouble reading discs properly, sometimes the dvd play stutters through each sequence to pauses for a few seconds plays roughly half a second then pauses again and so on. glad to be as suspicious as i am to question the lifetime of this player.
