I’ve said it all in the title really. I just needed a small DVD player, to fit in a space too narrow for most players. I just wanted something to relieve my Xbox 360 from DVD playing duties. Previous purchases of similar, but cheap-branded players had let me down, often with a poor picture making my DVDs look more like Youtube videos, and poor build quality. Some only lasted 3 months.

This DVD player is a great price, still a little more than those cheaper alternatives, but does not let the Sony brand down. The picture quality is very good, the build quality is fine, with a nice, chunky and fully-featured remote control, has all the basic features you’d need, including two different speeds of slow motion in either direction, two scan speeds, frame advance, angles, audio channels. subtitles etc, all easily accessible on the remote. And so far it seems very reliable.

The only disadvantage compared to a more expensive DVD player is that the optional digital audio out is Co-axial, not Optical (which seems better), the only video output option is a single scart socket, and the start-up time (i.e the time taken for the player to load and start playing a DVD from the time you press play) is quite long, sometimes up to 10 seconds. But it’s a minor niggle.

Overall I am very satisfied with this as a small, quiet, simple, and good quality DVD player for a very reasonable price.

Amazon have listed this item I believe incorrectly under the search term of Portable DVD players, when in fact, it is not, it is compact. I mistakenly and hurridly bought this for my son, thinking it had a screen, being listed as ‘Portable’ but, when it arrived today, I realised my mistake but also that Amazon’s listing had led to this mistake. It may have great sound and video quality, but you still need to plug it into a normal tv screen, which is not portable!

So returning it and hope that Amazon take note and remove it from their search term of ‘Portable’.

Bought this as a gift for my mum, she wanted a DVD player in the bedroom and this was ideal. Its the perfect size for the bedroom being compact, its also straight forward easy to play unit.

Its not the most hi-spec DVD player you could buy but for the money it does exactly what you want to. The play back quality is of a high standard and best of all my mum can use it without any training needed!!

Bought this for the bedroom to sit along a new widescreen tv. I t is compact and fits in well. Certainly no problems, would recommend.

Bought this compact player to fit in a narrow space. I’ve seen some reviews commenting that it’s noisy, and yes it was a little noisy while playing a particular DVD but then not on any others we’ve tried, so overall it’s quiet, and it is sitting on the thin metal top of a freesat receiver which if anything is likely to highlight any noise. It’s playing through a 42″ hd plasma tv, and the picture and sound quality is fine. Considering the price of this compact player, and that it does what it says on the tin, I’m happy.
