This machine was purchased after I lost my Asus eee. The main use for it is travelling on long haul flights so battery life is important and I’m happy to say that I can use it for at least 7 hours watching videos. The performance is adequate for the task, I was originally getting glitches in playback of DIVX files, but this was resolved after I removed the Windows Indexing facility. I’ve replaced it with Google desktop search which is much kinder to the hard drive and no more glitches as a result.

I’m planning to upgrade the memory to 2GB which I believe will further improve performance and will be a good investment of £30, but overall a great little PC, I would rate this very highly, the only real downside is the speakers which are not very powerful, even a cheap pair of headphones is a vast improvement, and on a flight I use headphones anyway. The amplifier output is very good and you only need the volume up at about 25%.

This netbook was purchased to replace an earlier model that had been stolen, and which would get a 5-star rating. Unfortunately, the NP-N140 is constantly dropping the wifi connection, and even with all the latest updates to the drivers applied, it still does not offer the solid connection that I would expect. I also strongly recommend the installation of a memory upgrade to improve performance.

I bought this laptop after reading a review for it on the gadget show and while I think it’s a good laptop the wireless connection is iffy (keeps losing connectivity) and it DOES NOT come with 1 year trial of microsoft. I informed Amazon of this today but I see it is still advertised as having it. Samsung confirmed to me that since Nov 09 Microsoft have changed it from 1 year to 60 days trial (even though the icon on my desktop still says 1 year) so be aware of this if you are buying it for the ‘free’ software. Apart from that it is a good looking laptop, very light and portable. Does the job.

I was looking forward to getting hands on this netbook. It was well spent money. The battery life is amazing, the full sized keyboard with big buttons makes the typing comfortable. The integrated peripherals work well, didn’t encounter many problems. Also you should get rid of all the preloaded unnecessary software as it slows down the netbook. Get an upgrade of 2GB ram. The build quality is a little worse than the NC10, for one thing the display is 0.1′ smaller as the frame around sides of the screen is wider than the NC10. Anyway, a great choice for a netbook. But if you have a NC10, you do need an upgrade to this model.

Just got it today, and I have to say it looks good. Windows update seems to take a while and it is generally a little bit on the slow side, but otherwise… for what it is, very good.

Battery life seems good, too, although only time will tell if it remains the same.
