Bit nervous because of reviews have been different, EPG speed and sound problems, but the more recent 2 or 3 reviews all say that it had a great HD picture and was a good product so I took delivery of mine on Saturday and it is performing very, very well.
I liked the look of it and the price was the cheapest for a HD recorder, plus I had a sagem set top box before.
I think my children have found it easy to select programmes and it says on the menu if the programme is in HD or not.
Performance wise, I have watched and recorded HD programmes and normal TV, which I have series linked, all this was simple and fast to complete.
This morning I had to do an upgrade of software when I switched on and it seems to have made the up/down menu very quick. I’ve tried playing around with trying to record lots of programmes and switching channel lots of times to see if I can ‘break’ it, but despite very early reports I have to be honest, its very, very good value for the money.
For me, this has solved an issue with having to record to DVD which is expensive and takes up too much space for loads of DVD’s everywhere, plus I get HD for nothing. I’m not a sport watcher, but the Athletics at the weekend was very good, the picture was clear and I even switched back and forth to standard to show my brother how good it was!
All in all I would advise to give it a try – RM.

Had this Sagem Freeview HD box for about a week now, I wanted to add my experiences for anyone looking at HD recorders. It was the cheapest unit on the market and I felt that as it was the smallest and most compact, I would go for it, the name Sagem to me has been around for a while so it made sense to a non-technical person.
- I’ve had it running for a week and recorded loads of programmes already, the HD picture has been very good, the standard channels are better than expected too.
- One really good point to mention is that I saw a review on a forum which advised of a software update, so I went on Sagems website last night and dowloaded a new update, it was easy for me, it took around the same time as when I update software on my PS3 or blackberry, very simple instructions and after using for a little while after, seemed to make it a bit faster after touching the remote control.
Likes:
Small and compact, nice gloss black front
very quiet to use
Offered a software update
HD pictures very clear
sound good
small remote control
EPG easy to understand
Moans:
Blue display gets a 8/10 as could be a bit more interactive
Could do with a larger Hard drive
Overall:
really happy with it, have a lot of shows to watch, menu speed is great, sound fine, does exactly what it is suppose to and HD pictures are clear, thumbs up from me.

I have purchased a sagem recorder today and was told by the shop staff (Spatial, thank you!) that i needed to download a new version of software, it was version 2.2 i think. So when I turned the box on, it offered to download the latest version, so I pressed yes and my EPG speed is perfrect and sound as now on the 02/08/2010 – just thought I would let you know as I think this should now help others be a bit more up to speed (excuse the joke) about how the product is performing today in my view. The shop staff also said I could download faster improved software from the SAgem website but never needed to do that, bring on Champions league in HD.
There pictures are good, so no complaints for me, very cheap price too, thanks, Mo.

This was a real hard choice for me and my family, we narrowed this down to this and a more expensive Philips recorder which had very bad reviews.
I’ve awarded this 5 stars becuase of the performace over the last 3 days and after reading other recent reviews I agree that Picture quality is great and its very good value, as it seemed to be the cheapest recorder with the best reviews on here.
The plus points for us buying this include:
The size, its very small for us girls its easy to dust!
HD programmes come up bright and accurate, better than I expected, you can really notice the difference.
The guide is straight forward and plain.
There are simple buttons on the remote, which is small and neat.
Recordings are quick to search through and like our previous Sky boxes in other houses you can fast forward and rewind quickly with no errors.
My family all learnt to use it in minutes.
I’m pleased that it offered us an update this week, which is why I am adding my opinion. This shows that it was worth the money. It was just a yes/no option and it made the box become faster and quicker to navigate around.
The menus and guides all are smooth, volume on my surrond sound all fine.
I think the only little downside is the display does not say the channel name, but I think this would be more money so it does not really matter for me buying on a budget.
5 stars for picture and 5 stars for keeping the menu and guides simple for families to use.
Simples.

Really pleased I bought this, it’s performed well so far.
My initial feedback was that I agreed with some other reviews and that the EPG was a little sticky, after a software update (from the sagem website) it is now probably 10-20% more fluid and reactive, but I remember when I first had Sky plus and that was the same as this, so no real problems in general, all fine and working smoothly now like a £200+ product should.
I like the look of the menu’s, it gives the usual information and guide on what your about to watch and the info bar gives a signal strengh icon and if your watching in HD or not, so EPG in general is nice and clear.
I changed mine from 1080i to 1080p and I can’t really notice the difference, but might be able to once I record more fast moving movies or sport.
The audio has various options, which I have not used yet, but could come in handy.
Whilst recording and playing back I have to say that it is doing everything right, also with series link performing well.
The signal strengh in the menu section is something I would say to keep any eye on. My signal strengh is only 26% which seems low but on another note the signal quality is 94% so I guess these 2 things cancel each other out. I think that for an early HD product and considering that the signal is not great everywhere this looks like it could only improve.
Picture quality is crystal clear on HD and on standard channels it’s the usual standard, depending on what programme your watching.
I would recommend this to anyone who has/is using sky or a normal freeview box as a good future product to include recording and HD.
No faults at all to report, very nice HD pictures.
