I bought this to hook up to a projector to watch the world cup, have a Humax system on the main TV. This system is so much easier to operate than the Humax, doesn’t have all the features of recording etc but is usable straight out the box. The Humax baffles me sometimes and I’m reasonably technical (wife can’t use it at all) would recommend the Sagem over the Humax unless you have a master degree in complicated electronic gadgets or are under 16!
I’ve hooked the Sagem to a projector and the picture on HD is fantastic, I’ve also hooked it up to some computer speakers and it sounds as good as the £300 theatre system I’ve just bought for the main TV, also allows me to use it as a digital radio without having to turn a TV on.
Only negative is the build quality looks and feels a bit cheap.

Sagem DSI86 HD Satellite TV Digital Box with Freesat HD
I bought this Freesat receiver a couple of weeks ago and I have not regretted this purchase at all – the receiver is doing exactly what I expected it to do and it even exceeded my expectations.
The unit came with an HDMI cable and plenty of useful information in the user leaflets. But I soon found out that there is no urgent need for assistance as the box guided me through the installation
process with clear instructions. After only 3 minutes my box was set up and the first of over 140 free channels (no more Sky bills!!!) appeared on the screen.
The menu itself is very straightforward too as most of the functions and settings are arranged in a very logical way. The programme guide allows me to check what is going on in a week’s time
and considering the price of this unit I am more than happy to accept the lack of a hard disk. If I really want to record something I can still use the AUX port to record directly to my DVD recorder.
Another very interesting function that I was not aware of is the parental control which allows me to create a channel list for my children, with locked or hidden individual channels.
Coming to the main point, the crisp picture quality:
I can finally make use of my HD TV as the DSI86HD box receives HD channels. The HD quality is simply amazing, in particular when watching documentaries. And if I change the video settings to a
higher solution even the standard definition programmes are looking much sharper than with my old box!
Summary:
- very easy to use
- straightforward and quick installation
- great picture quality
- parental control function
- 7 day programme guide
Overall a very good product that I can only recommend.

The instructions are very clear and I found that setting it up was very easy, tuning in was also simple as the step by step guide in the instructions were clear and logical
The box itself works really well, though it does seem to get a bit warm but this does not affect its performance.

We live in an area where we cannot get terrestrial TV let alone freeview so the only option was to pay for SKY which I totally resented.
Someone told me about freesat which has been rolled out jointly by BBC and ITV and as we already had a dish I thought I would give it a go and its marvellous! The dish does not need adjusting as it operates from the same satellites as SKY, it was really a case of get it out the box and switch on. Ok there are not so many channels but FREE high defination is amazing and the setup is so simple.
The radio is digital through the box. Im unsure whether it is the same as DAB but its brill as the stations are all preset. If you want to listen to the radio you will need the TV on or you can listen via a surround sound system connected to an outlet at the back of the box.
I was warned against getting a cheap box as this can affect the quality of the picture and signal. As I had saved for what seemed like forever for a posh TV I didnt see the point of getting a non HD model and I like Sagem mobile phones so when I saw this available I grabbed it with both hands to give it a go. This does come with a HDMI cable but it seems abit cheap so we bought a gold one which has really improved the picture.
This is a well built attractive machine and discreet too so it isnt as ugly as some on the market. All you do is put your postcode in and it automatically saves all the channels and you are ready to watch TV. The box has 2 scart outlets for your surround sound or a conventional TV, however we have a HD ready TV and we connected it with a gold HDMI cable that we purchased ourself and I am just blown away at how simple the whole changeover is. I have since cancelled my SKY contract and have saved myself £18 a month and in less than 6 months the box has paid for itself.
Amazing TV made simple with a simple digi box with tons of features such as TV guide, programme reserving and tons more. I will not be going back! I am one happy TV viewer!!!!

There really isn’t much I can add to what other others have said but like one reviewer, I was cautious about buying what appears to be a ‘cheap’ option. I have already had to exchange two faulty Goodmans boxes – purchased elsewhere.
I plugged in the Sagem and was watching Wimbledon in HD within a couple of minutes.
The picture and sound are both excellent although I too will purchase a better quality HDMI cable. The menu system is simple to navigate all of which makes this box a recommended purchase.
