Great DVD player although Amazon are linking it together with a HDMI cable offer which is very misleading as you cannot usea HDMI cable with this product? Thanks guys for wasting my hard earned money!!!!!

Despite Phillips telling me this will play up to 1080p DivX, they eventually admitted that it won’t.
I bought this to play the 720p files my camcorder produces, and the procedure of finding out the limitations was a nightmare.
The initial customer support people told me it would work. I was then excited to be put through the “DVD Technical Support” but it turned out they just had a copy of the manual, and proceeded to read unhelpful bits of the manual I had in my hand to me. Chap had very little idea about the product in particular or video in general (I have been repeatedly told this unit will not play .avi, for instance).
Eventually I was told the max resolution it will play is 576p, but this is only in 4:3. The max 16:9 resolution I can get is 720×400 which is not HD.
My gripe with Phillips is that they don’t say this anywhere on the box, their website or in the manual. They have no interest in the issue at all now that they have my money.
Yes, I know it “upscales” DVDs to 1080p, but you can’t restore lost data so where’s the point?
The poor CS & product knowledge surprised me in a hi-tech company like Phillips, and I suspect they now just buy badged-up kit from Foxconn. The tech support has been out-sourced far abroad and the staff just given a manual to look at.
And if you think you’ve been treated shoddily, try ringing up to complain. Or sending them an email.
My first and last contact with the company.

I wanted to use this as a cheap CD player, and I must say, It’s surprisingly good.
If you want to play hi-definition video, or if you are an audiophile, then this is obviously too cheap! But as I say, it’s more than good for the price. Straight from the box, without any setting up, it played Cd’s pretty well. Having set up the oversammpling rate to max, and some minor tinkering, I think that it is marvelous. It also plays wma files from a memory stick, though these are maybe lesser quality, still not bad though!

Bought this as a replacement for a Toshiba player that didn’t like ejecting discs! It also replaces a couple of failed attempts at getting a simple / cheap media player to play DIVX files.
This player fits the bill very well – it’s a nice compact DVD player and has a USB port on the front, which is great to plug in a flash drive.
The only slightly frustrating thing is that I can’t find any info about what the USB compatibility is. So far I’ve tried a Lexar 4Gb flash drive and that works fine. It plays all the DIVX files that I’ve thrown at it yet.
The remote is good and responsive and not as angle dependant as my previous players. It does have a slightly cheap appearance, though, which is a shame as the player looks very sleek.
Overall, I would recommend it highly.
