Comparing this to the official Canon battery that came with the camera and is now 3 years old, and another similar non branded replacement bought at the same time as the camera, I get about double the battery life out of this replacement. In casual use on holiday in a IXUS 40, I got about 3 days use, about 20-30 photos per day and 15 minutes reviewing them at the end of each day. The original Canon battery now only lasts about one to two days under the same circumstances, so I always carry a spare, especially since the battery low indicator on the camera doesn’t give you much warning – once it comes on, you only have about 10 minutes left before it goes completely.
So I can say it’s better than a three year old battery, but I can’t compare it to a new, branded battery. However, you could buy several of these for the price of an official Canon and definitely get a good deal. The only thing you don’t get is the battery end cap to protect the terminals from accidental contact with keys, so keep it wrapped up.

I bought two batteries for my daughter. She does a lot of caving and in the past has unfortunately lost spare batteries in the dark conditions in most caves. These good value replacements seem to last longer between charges so lessen the necessity for changing in the dark. Good all round value.

My original Cannon battery had failed after 5 years, and so I bought this one, which works fine. Maybe it doesn’t last quite as long as the original one, but hey what do you expect for such good value! All I would say is, charge it regularly, as the camera gives you no warning of battery level getting low. I would buy again.
