Wireless Wonder. Logitech MK 250,
 Â
One unfortunate day, my old laptop’s screen cracked when I slammed it down with a pen lying on the keypad. Rather than banning it to the attic forever, or changing the LED display screen, I decided to permanently connect it to my 40″ LED TV via HDMI. The only thing to fully enable this, is to get a wireless keyboard and mouse.
So, I spent the next few days researching on the best value wireless keyboard and mouse under £25 in Amazon, Google, Play and eBay. I had shortlisted this one, along with other models like the Logitech MK 350, Microsoft wireless 1000, and even the Argos value wifi keyboard. Among the lot, this MK 250 looks as if it is would fit the bill, and yes … I wasn’t disappointed !
First the look and feel:
It looks like any standard keyboard, but a bit smaller. It won’t win any beauty awards, but its shaped nicely. The keys feel tactile and responsive. The small tabs on the backside (to increase the height) is also just about adequate. The build quality is quite good as expected from Logitech. My only concern is that the mouse feel’s a bit on the flatter side. I would have liked it, if it was a bit more stouter to mimic the shape of a cupped palm. Both the keyboard and the mouse are light and easy to use.
Setup:
Easy. Just plug-in the small accompanying USB stick. Vista and Win 7 will pick the driver automatically. Remove the plastic battery conserve tab from the keyboard and the mouse. Switch both on, and you are ready for business.
Battery life:
To save battery life, its got an ‘ON/OFF’ button on both the keyboard and on the mouse. Do remember to turn it off, if you need the battery to be alive for the advertised 15 months (keyboard)/6 months (mouse). There is no led indication for caps lock/scroll lock or number lock. I assume this is to save battery, and its not of much concern to me.
Wireless reach:
I second the review by Cyberbunny. The wifi reach of this keyboard is amazing. And this is the precise reason why I bought it. I can type in from my dining room and still see the characters on a notepad on my laptop which is in the living room. That is: the wifi worked through 2 walls. This is amazing stuff for a budget wifi keyboard.
I then tested on my other laptop (Win 7), which is more or less used like a desktop. Works perfectly fine as well. Zero lag and precise mouse movement. 10 metre is the range mentioned in the product literature.
My verdict
Go for it. I now surf the net, do online shopping, facebook, etc literally just on the comfort of my sofa ! For less than £18, you could not get a better value wifi keyboard. Well recommended product.

Very good. Shame the switch is so inconspicuous.,
I have been using this keyboard and mouse for a few weeks now. It worked very well from day one. No problem whatsoever. No delays or any of the typical problems people usually find with wireless keyboards. I even feel that my computer goes faster since I am using it, but I don’t know why that should be.
A couple of things I don’t like:
1) the keyboard is very flat, almost like a laptop computer with all the keys at the same level, which I don’t like, and it hardly has a slope. I had to put something underneath to make the slope of the keyboard higher so I find writing easier.
2)The switches in both the keyboard and the mouse are underneath of the devices and so I forget to switch them off when I switch off the computer which is not good. If the switches were in a more visible and accessible place, on top of the devices for instance, I am sure I would remember it a lot better and also I would remember to switch the devices off when not at the computer or using them.
If you like flat keyboards and you don’t mind the switch to be unaccessible then go for it. It will be a five star for you. For me it can be only 3.

So far I’m impressed…,
I purchased the Logitech MK250 two weeks ago and I am very impressed with it. It is a joy to use, normally I would use a wired keyboard and mouse as I haven’t had much success with cordless/wireless keyboards and mice in the past. The MK250, however, is as good as using wired devices, both the keyboard and mouse are very responsive. No lagging between typing and the words appearing on the screen, which was a problem I had with a previous cordless keyboard.
The MK250 is truly plug ‘n’ play. Plug the receiver in and away you go, no need for any separate drivers.
I haven’t got a bad thing to say about the MK250. The keyboard and mouse don’t need line of sight to work, the receiver for mine is plugged into a USB port at the back of my tower unit. The distance from receiver to device is brilliant. As a test I stood at the bottom of my stairs in the hallway, (PC is upstairs in my bedroom), pressed a few random keys, went back upstairs and the letters were there on the screen.
I can’t really comment on the battery life. I am still using the batteries that came with the MK250. I turn the keyboard and mouse off when I am not using them. On/off switches on the undersides of both the mouse and keyboard, which are really useful.
The MK250 is the best purchase I have made for my PC this year. I absolutely love it.
