Wow! A fantastic television, all the more so at Amazon’s amazing price! Delivered next day (free!) along with a VEE glass stand for £60 that would have cost nearer to £200 in the shops.
Once un-packed the set tuned itself in within a few minutes and is the only television I have ever purchased that gave a superb picture straight from the box. It has numerous preset picture settings all of which are acceptable and a further two that can be user set. With a little tweaking and experimentation with different sources, (DVD, Freeview, Sky HD etc) this set is capable of stunning picture quality, both on standard and hi-def inputs.
A word of warning though – you can sometimes end up concentrating on someone’s hair folicles rather than what you are actually watching. I have lost the plot on a couple of Torchwood episodes as I was more concerned with John Barrowman’s stubble than the plotline itself. Indeed, when showing my new telly to my sister and her husband, we were all transfixed by the uneven trimming of Neil Diamond’s eyebrows (check it out for yourself!) than the concert itself! On my previous rear projection set you had a job to see his eyebrows in the first place!
Seriously, if you are in the market for a large (though not overpoweringly so) LCD TV this has to be a front runner in the value for money stakes. Any concerns over whether a Plasma might give slightly better blacks, or that a more highly specced set might offer smoother fast action (on sports or action movies etc) are quite honestly unfounded. The overall contrast looks natural and blacks show as near to black as I have seen on most domestic televisions. There is little or no blurring on sports like motor racing, football etc and Mr Diamond looks pin sharp as he glides across the stage. I just wish he’d trim his eyebrows properly!
Don’t hesitate – order one today and I promise you won’t be dissapointed!

My father was a TV specialist, and I worked for many years in a very competetive TV/Video store.
When I purchased this LG TV I went to two local stores to see several brands showing the same movie to make the difference in performance easy to see.
This TV,taking into acount the different screen modes,The ability on spare modes to set the picture as you prefer it rather than one of the preset modes,Too many features to mention and enough various input/output ports to connect to absolutely anything, even using it as a HI-DEF PC Monitor, put it head and shoulders above the competition.

I was looking for a 42 inch 1080p lcd tv when i came across this 47 inch one and thought that it could not be much good for the price so i looked around other web sites for reviews and found most were very positive about the tv so as i am on a budget i bought it and found the picture excellent, blue ray dvd’s are fantastic, the tv is packed full of fetures but one of the best is the voice enhancement feature which makes voices clearer but does not make explosions, music etc louder which my wife loves as she has hearing aids and finds that the background noise drowns out the voices, i have’nt had the tv very long and have’nt really found any faults with the tv itself but putting the stand on the tv was a bit of a struggle as it says to lay the tv screen down on the floor on a cushioned surface and as our settee cushions are fixed i had to use a soft blanket but found that it was’nt off the floor high enough to put the stand on as the stand also sticks out on the front, we managed to fit the stand with no problems in the end but i did’nt feel comfortable fitting it, another fault was there was only a quick set up book and the consise manual is on disc so you will have to run it on your pc its ok if you have a laptop but a desk top that is in another room mean a lot of trips to the pc and back. the tv is excellent value and is a quality product so if like me you are on a budget or just want a good all round tv with out the sony price tag you wont go wrong with this, its amazing value.

Initially very pleased with the quality of the TV but have discovered a problem with this model when using HDMI inputs. I have tried using a Humax Freesat box and a Philips DVDR using upscaling. With both of these these is a Lip Sync issue when watching HD output. I have had the TV replaced and it was exactly the same with a new TV. Since then I have posted on bulletin boards for information and discovered a lot of people who have had the same issue and have had to resort to buying an external amp and not listen to the sound through the TV. I have not had any luck with the LG support in the UK. So buyers beware, test your HDMI input in the TV before buying or you may well have problems!
