Was a bit dubious as to whether the gorrilapod would be up to the job of securing a mid-weight SLR camera with a long zoom lens attached but to my delight, it does the job admirably. I do a fair bit of outdoor photography but like to travel as lightly as possible and normal sized tripods were just too much of a chore hence the reason I purchased this item. It’s light and compact so is easy to travel with but the big plus point must be those wonderful flexible rubberised legs that grip really tightly onto whatever you like. Just as an experiment, I wrapped the pod securely round the top of a wooden dining chair and lifted the chair up by grabbing just the pod itself and it didn’t loose it’s grip, in fact it didn’t budge at all! Also, I’m really impressed with the ball socket head and quick release plate (with spirit level) which is very easy to use and is silky smooth in operation. Super product and quickly delivered from Amazon, so I’m well chuffed with the whole transaction.

Bought this for my SLR using a zoom lens and its sturdy enough to give clear results without any evidence of camera shake

I have just taken delivery of the SLR Zoom, and it is a solid piece of kit. Using it with my Canon 5D MKII and the Canon 24-105mm f/4 L lens attached. It feels very stable and solid. The Ball head is a really good option, especially with the little spirit level.
This will definitely be in my camera bag all the time.

Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom with Joby Ball Head BH1 kit.
Turns every which way and fixes on almost anything .. perfect for my Sony handycam e.g sturdy enough for the weight, and very necessary for those long zoom shots .. even better if you use a remote as well .. would recommend it 100%.

Bought specifically to take on holiday… Lightweight and adaptable. Wanted to write this review to say when I opened the pod and ballhead (bought as package) everything moved except the ball and socket part of the ballhead! I searched on the web for others that may have had this problem, and no luck so wrote an email to Joby… they replied, the same day, with a very useful tip… and I quote… “whack it on something hard, don’t worry if you break it we will replace it.” So I did, and it did the trick I now have a very moveable joint at the top which tightens solid by using the screw. Only one downside I’ve found with my gorillapod, is its height… this can sometimes be a bit limiting, but it means you’ve got to be more inventive with your shots!
