I bought this because it was cheap. It is cheap. You can easily spend 4 times as much. It is a bit odd though. The temperature gauge is unnecessary and massively inaccurate. And when I first plugged it in, it broadcast with a nasty high-pitched hiss. And it did it in both cars. And it did it regardless of tuning. Horrible. Then I tried using batteries (instead of powering it from the cigar lighter) and it is suddenly bloody brilliant. So, it looks like the charger / power lead needs suppressing (or something). And it’s going to cost me a few pennies in batteries. But, so what? It’s saved me over £20 and I don’t have wires trailing all over the car. Recommended for skinflints.

I bought this item because it was one of Auto Express magazine’s ‘best buys’ for sound quality.

Presumably they either tested it on a much nicer car than mine (a fairly safe bet) or didn’t power it with the in-car charger, because as with other reviewers all I got was this awful howling interference – in-car tinnitus with the faint sound of my music in the background.

Presumably the manufacturers didn’t get round to thoroughly investigating this flaw, being far too excited about the utterly pointless thermometer feature.

However, use batteries and it’s a different game – a really excellent, clear sound. In fact I hooked mine up to my hi-fi separates system at home which might expose any hiss or flaws in the sound quality and again it gave off a really nice clear sound with a transmitter range of around 15 feet or so.

I really love my Jivo – it’s a great buy but I’ll be needing a pack of AAA rechargeables to go with it.

whilst it is cheap and cheerful it seemingly can only be used with battery power as upon use of in car charger sound becomes an uninterrupted high pitch whistle which when reported to jivo i gained no customer support response at all except an automatic e mail staing my query had been logged . any one else had this problem or found the answer?

Not sure I agree with previos reviews. Poor quality sound with lots of interference even after change of batteries

The Jivo transmitter does what it says on the tin, im using my creative zen stone 2gb and it gives out a decent sound. for the price you really can’t complain.

my only gripe is that when you use the supplied in car charger the sound is suddenly transmitted with a horrid squeaking/static interference. however it doesn’t if you use standard AAA batteries instead, i expect that is due to the metal contacts on the charger knackering up the radio. This really is poor design and may end up costing me in batteries, i’m sure i’ll find out soon!

p.s what the hell is the in-built temperature meter for? *sighs*
