I’ve sort of ‘researched’ this. I’ve tried 3 or 4 different re-manufactured cartridges in this printer. They lasted a month on average (with one that died). Using HP originals they almost make 2 months (none have died).
I’ve had the printer for 2 years now. As I’ve not found re-manufactures for much less than £8, that means in this case genuine HP cartridges are the way to go. Although I still object to the price.
I’ve had success with re-manufactures elsewhere, and didn’t notice any loss of quality.
Finally, as another reviewer said, when the cartridge says it’s run out of ink, there are still at least 50-100 pages left. You’ll know it’s run out when there are pale patches of text.

To address the comments from the gentleman who said buy ghost (non HP) cartridges –

HP printers always check for authenticity of their cartridges

He stated that he got a 24 ml black cartridge – the company he recommended doesn’t stock a 24 ml compatible black cartridge for this type

He also stated that the cartridge was cheaper – the product details are:

- High Yield Black 11mls £13.48

That’s 11 mls not 24 mls.

That’s £2.51 cheaper (without postage). Add the postage and it becomes more expensive than having the supersaver from amazon.

One question mate, do you work for the firm that you recommended?

One suggestion for buyers – always stick with HP cartridges for HP printers – then if anything goes wrong caused by the cartridge HP will cover it

This cartridge produces superbly crisp black text and lasts very well, but HP won’t win any prizes for value. It’s possible to get a full set of cartridges of a comparable quality for Epson for less money than the HP 57 color alone, however it’s also possible to pay more for Lexmark and get worse quality, so HP’s got a lot right.
Just buy online and save yourself some cash.

I upgraded to a new HP printer/scanner/copier 1350 earlier this year having used an old Deskjet 610C previously and was frankly very pleased with the quality that the new printer produced with this cartridge. The text is very crisp and clean and unlike the old printer ink does not smudge if left in the printer whilst the next sheet is sliding onto it.

HP cartridges always are a little more expensive than others but I do think they’re worth the price. And they are coming down in price, I can remember when a black deskjet printer cartridge cost nearly £20 and a tricolor cartridge nearly £30.

You can ignore the warning that the cartridge is running low in ink as it comes up much sooner than is necessary. Generally speaking when HP cartridges (laser and deskjet) start to run out you get portions of the page text faded out in the printout and that doesn’t usually happen for quite some time after the warning message appears.

Since my experience with refills, I have always bought original cartridges. Refilling Cartridges can damage the mechanisms inside the case, and could cause leakages – my old printer broke because ink from a refilled cartridge broke the jet inside the machine. My policy now is always buy original HP cartridges!
