Kitses, a film professor at San Francisco State and author of the seminal Western study “Horizons West,” brings his full powers to bear on this, one of the finest B-movies ever made. Alternating between film history and textual analysis, Kitses weaves a brief but rich story of the unlikely genesis of an American cult classic. He also provides revealing insights on the film’s relationships to the western genre. One of the best in the BFI Film Classics series.

GUN CRAZY,1949,black and white,is a Film Noir classic, that co-stars Welsh born PEGGY CUMMINS and American born JOHN DALL.She as the ruthless-femme fatale- killer,Annie Laurie Starr, and he as her reluctant accomplice,Bart Tare. Both Cummins and Dall gave brilliant performances,as did rest of cast.GUN CRAZY was filmed in the South West U.S.A.,during 1949.In 1950,it was “twice” released in the cinemas, first in January as-DEADLY IS THE FEMALE-and then again in August as-GUN CRAZY-this films more famous title.
-BFI FILM CLASSICS have published a great paperback/handsized book[80 plus pages with black and white photos],written by Jim Kitses, that details fully the making of this classic of a classic Film Noir.
For anybody who has the dvd of GUN CRAZY-i would recommend buying this excellent book.
Regards,Bill.
