although the charging lead that comes with the phone, and the hole in the hero, do not look like standard mini UBSs (the lead and the hole are asymmetric, sort of like a tiny sim card, being a rectangle with the corner cut off)
you CAN plug a normal mini USB lead in and it does work – I just tired it with my power monkey and the phone is happily charging. So I reckon you can buy this lead with confidence.

Very good piece of kit, arrived quickly and on time. Has a standard mini USB plug which fits not only the HTC hero but anything else with this standard fitting, eg. garmin satnav units etc. Recommended.

Perhaps HTC have changed the fitting but this cable has a standard mini-usb connector, which my HTC hero does NOT have. This cable is useless for the purpose. Check before buying!
