When you receive this the packaging is high quality, film covered thick cardboard box. It is therefore even more disappointing when you open the item to find an item which is quite flimsy. The first one I had was returned faulty, it stopped working after a few hours. The replacement works but is not the high quality item I would expect from Freecom. I also own a similar product made by ALLCAM (S35DC eSATA & USB2.0 Docking Station 3.5″ & 2.5″ SATA Hard Drive w/ e-SATA Adapter Bracket ), the build quality of this item is much better, have had no issues and has two lights showing blue for power and red for data transfer, the Freecom version only has one white light for both power and data transfer.

The unit supports both notebook and pc size SATA hard disks. I use via usb to a Mac to recover the files of my old pc and works really great, no software installation needed, intuitive working mode.
No support for firewire or IDE disks, but if you have just SATA, the pricing is really honest on this, if you have eSATA support the unit turns to a must have in my opinion.

Easy set up and got my spare 2.5″ SATA drive working pretty quickly. Transfer speed on eSATA was very good. With everything being hotswap it has saved me a load of time and hassle compared to having to case up my old drive(s). Nice look compared to others I’ve seen as well. Good price as well.

I got this after i suffered from a corrupt hard drive and wasn’t able to even boot up or see my drive in bios. I did actually go out and buy an alternative to this as i didn’t want to wait any longer for it to arrive and purchased a cable option which is more portable and has an option for both IDE and SATA hard drives.
This product however is only for SATA hard drives but more ideal for using at home on your desk top either as a back up external drive or you can put in a corrupt drive and access it via a usb on another pc. The product is simple to use and has 2 adaptors for both UK and EU electrical sockets.
I have tried the dock and it instantly recognises the drive and you can access files immediately after around 5 seconds.
I didnt want to have to bother friends using their pc to fix my drive so this is ideal as now all i do if my desktop pc has a problem (or vica versa) i pop the drive into the dock and access it and fix it from my laptop or desktop pc.
The product is not cheap but then you only need to buy it once for peace of mind and freecom always seem to be very reliable.
I didn’t give it five stars as there is no option for IDE drives but asides from that its perfect.
