Bought this as a back-up drive to use with Apple’s Time Machine. Highly recommended – especially for Mac users as it comes HFS+ formatted, so is ready to use straight out of the box with power and firewire cables (PC users will have to re-format to NTFS or FAT-32). I bought a Western Digital hard drive at first but it was faulty on arrival so returned it for this. I’ve used LaCie hard drives almost exclusively for the past 10 years (only ever had issues with Maxtor and WD drives as stated) and was initially uneasy switching to Freecom but have to say that so far I am impressed with the ease of use and the speed at which it copied data. I had the Freecom unpacked, hooked up and running a back-up in Time Machine literally within five minutes. 1.5Tb gives loads of storage and should enable me to run incremental back-ups for months to come. The drive looks good, feels solidly built with an aluminium casing and so far works a treat, though can’t comment on longevity as it’s only a day old at the moment – will post back if I do experience any reliability issues though. Very impressed so far.

Having bought a lot of Hard Disks for the Mac in the past with varying results I find this one the best. Easy to set up, plugged it in and away it goes. Files transfer very quickly and the hard disk seems very quiet.
So pleased with it I’m going to buy another one
