Don’t buy this box if you are looking to own “The Big Steal”. This is the colorized version in which the original imagery of the film is totally ruined.

If you enjoy the Film Noir movies, this box set is a must. great value for a set of classics, the dangerous women, the loser hero, the dark imagery and build up of suspense. Movie Classics that have stood the test of time, and are still enjoyable, tense and great entertainment without foul language.

A must have to any classic dvd collection. I’m now waiting for the secong volume.

Great collection of movies and so much content for so little. Beautiful packaging too. The box resembles a cigarette box.

Great set of films, sharply transferred, only spoiled by including a colourised version of ‘The Big Steal’ – Hey, people, it’s (supposed to be) NOIR, not Douglas Sirk! That’s ‘Noir’ as in French for BLACK (and white). Also, strictly speaking, ‘The Big Steal’ doesn’t qualify as Noir, anyway. Always a pleasure to watch Robert Mitchum, but this film is essentially a romantic thriller, not Noir. I haven’t watched them all, yet, but the set would be good value for even the five (of the nine) that I have watched; including ‘Double Indemnity’ (timeless masterpiece), ‘The Killers’ (Burt Lancaster’s startling first appearance), and, perhaps the best of the bunch, ‘Murder My Sweet’, (from the incomparable Raymond Chandler’s ‘Farewell My Lovely’). Dick Powell obviously has (and gives) fun playing Philip Marlowe, without sending it up. Great stuff!

This has to be one of the best “film noir” box-sets ever! In terms of an introduction – for those wondering what all the fuss is about – or, a representation of the best – for those who are already afficianados – this set of films is a classic, and extremely good value.

I make no apologies for stating that my heart lies in the past, and, this is just about as good as it gets. The “dames”, the “world-weary” heroes, the lean, strong story-lines, and, the glorious black and white shadows of the night scenes – which colour can never emulate – they’re all here.

Anyone wishing to see what unadulterated movie-making is all about, could do no worse than buy this set.
