Amazon isn’t (for a change!) the cheapest place to buy this but, if you haven’t got a dedicated sound card and you want to put your videos onto your PC, then burn them onto DVD, then this will do the trick. Just a few things to be aware in order to maximise results:

Its a USB connection. That it means it has to share with anything else thats plugged into a USB port anywhere on your PC. USB isn’t most efficient way to transfer and, as transferring analogue data into digital is demanding of your PC’s resources its definitely best to give this product all the help it can get when you are using it. If you don’t, you might well end up with sight and sound sync problems. So…..

1. unplug anything else in a USB port when you’re using it

2. close down all those programmes running in the background (right click on the icons on the right of the “tray” at bottom of your screen and exit them.

I found the bundled software not very useful – except when you come to burning your movie onto a DVD. Then it’s great for building menu screens and chapters. You are much better off using Microsoft’s MovieMaker (free download if you haven’t already got it bundled). To maximise results, use Alt+Ctrl+Delete to bring up the Processes list on your PC, scroll down to moviemaker.exe, right click and select High under “Priority” (Just do this when your “capturing” video using moviemaker – you can put priority back to “Normal” after you have finished)

It works, and rather well too. I popped in the CD, loaded the drivers and software, plugged the adapter into the USB socket and away it went.

The video capture is pretty good, the writing to DVD is a bit slow, but this is just as likely to be my laptop than anything else. The bottom line is, I needed something to be able to put my videos onto DVD at a reasonable price, and this does it.

All in all I would like to add my weight to the positive reviews that this item has recieved. Its very easy to use, its amazing how many problems can be avoided if you follow the instructions to the letter sometimes! :D

I got this mainly to transfer the 100’s of videos we have here and its very intuitive, highly recommended

Like others, I read all the reviews on the web about this & similar clone product. Reviews seemed very mixed from good to b__y aweful. I had been using a Dazzle unit every so often in the past, but temperamental had deteriorated to impossible to use. I am in the process of moving my old family vhs videos to dv.

I took the advice of the first reviewer and closed down all my unnecessary apps and tray items. I have the advantage of several dedicated SATA drives in my system and a reasonably fast Dual AMD processor and 3gb RAM.

I already had Ulead V10 loaded as well as Pinnacle, but the supplied Ulead is good for capture and general use. Once the drivers were installed it found the unit and capture was much more straightforward than expected. The quality turned out much better than expected, no dropped frames or audio. I didn’t realise 3 hrs VHS would consume 150Gb of drive, it seems to produce more data than the old Dazzle and I have a lot of editing to do!

To sum up, it does what it says on the box and I had no problems. I would think that preparing your system and a good hard drive are essential, the processing involved is quite intense.

I bought from Amazon because even though it was a little dearer than elsewhere at least if it hadn’t worked they will take it back…

The product arrived practically in 2 parts the package had obvviously been opened before dispatch and frankly I spent the first 20 minutes reseating chips and wires before I was able to snap the thing back togethter in the hope of it working.

The instructions are okay but obviously translated so not all the instructions especially for the ulead software actually make sense.

The provided software didn’t pick up a signal from my video at all; however; Roxio creator imported all I wanted with only a minor warning that there may be sound issues on region 1 players (I’m region 2 transfering PAL tapes so frankly I couldn’t care less on that one)

The unit does it’s job and pretty well after some minor adjustments in the settings so I’ve only the most minor of quality issues with this item
