Some quirks, 19 Feb 2010
This review is from: Duracell CEF22 NiMH Battery Multi Charger (Misc.)

I bought this as a replacement for a “one hour fast-charger” that I think hasn’t been properly charging my batteries.

It works, but it seems to have some oddities, unless my unit is slightly faulty. I checked all my recharagable batteries (mainly AAs) to see if they all worked OK. I went through them all discharging and charging and then discharging (in a torch or two). I found that when I took the batteries out of a torch that had been left on all night the charger would sometimes reject them (flashing red light), apparently it didn’t like any cells that had very low residual voltages (less than a 100mV or so). Usually, by leaving the battery in for a while and trying again the prioblem was overcome, but a bit of a pain. But when it charges it seems to work. Some batteries I thought might be duff seemed actually to be fine, but because of the lower voltage produced by these cells (1.25 approx) one of my digital cameras reported them as flat (which for it they were) but they still worked fine in other devices.

Also, a part charged, warm, battery can be rejected if removed and reinserted, seems to need to cool down.

And I was surprised how long a just-charged (unused) battery would appear to need charging if it were reinserted in the charger.

But it is nice to have a charger that you can put in odd combinations of numbers and cell sizes.

The charger that could…, 7 Dec 2009
This review is from: Duracell CEF22 NiMH Battery Multi Charger (Misc.)

Duracell charger:

Pros:

- Good size and weight to it. It does not feel cheaply made even though it is plastic. Hinged lid with an oval gap in it to avoid overheating. Seperate plug which makes it easy to place charger. Main batteries are held in place by sprung loaded compartments

- Individual lights for each battery. Each battery is assigned an led charging light so makes charging indvidual batteries a plus

- Charges individual batteries

- Charger avoids overcharging cells

- 110 – 240v ac can be used overseas

Possible Cons:

There are no major flaws that i am aware of as it does everything i need it to (only used AA and AAA in the charger)…

- Obviously not a quick charger, will take about 4 to 6 hours for most batteries. So if you do not need batteries fast it is not a con. Just stock up on some rechargables and keep them ready in the charger, duracell supremes are cheap on marketplace, so stock up.

Am a bit annoyed that the product description mentions nothing of the fact that it comes with a 2 pin euro plug despite being despatched from the UK.

This review is from: SanDisk Secure Digital Card (SDHC) CLASS 4 – 4GB

It’s difficult to say a lot about a memory card like this. Either it does the job or it doesn’t – I have several of this particular type, and it does. Why several? Well both my wife and I have digital cameras and take lots of pictures especially when away, and neither of us likes the idea of putting all our eggs in one basket. So rather than have 8GB cards we each take two 4GB and switch them part way through the trip. That way if the worst does happen we haven’t lost all the data and will have at least some photographs. It hasn’t happened yet, but the peace of mind is good.

I have just used this disc on my holiday, it has a white label not blue and I now cannot download the pictures using my card reader. It comes up with F:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O dem error what ever that is. So not happy with this product

The SD card arrived in 3 days in a padded envelope. The card was in a plastic case but not attached to any card. It was as though it had been opened. The quality of the card is fine and works fine. My moan is just about the delivery presentation.

Samsung ES70 Camera, 26 May 2010
By

This review is from: Samsung ES71 Digital Camera – Black (12.2 MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 2.7 inch TFT Screen (Electronics)

I got this camera out of argos for 79.99 :) I think it’s a good camera – i’m using it for taking pictures of my art to sell online and for use on holidays. The USB cable, like the other reviewer said, is very annoying because the cable is too short, but you do get used to it. Over all a good camera – has loads of scene modes and i got a scratch screen in the box which clicks on over the front to protect it from scratches. Also – one thing i love about this camera is the way it shoots colours – they look really vibrant. I had another Samsung before this one and it wasn’t half as noticeable. Also, with the camera i bought, the wall charger is simply a plug into which you connect the USB cable – i’ve never had this before and am concerned about how long it’s going to last.

So far tho – i’ve had no problems at all :)

Samsung ES71, 20 July 2010
This review is from: Samsung ES71 Digital Camera – Black (12.2 MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 2.7 inch TFT Screen (Electronics)

I just got this camera from Amazon, and I want to say I was amazed by the delivery time. It got here 15 days before the estimate and that’s impressive considering I live in the other corner of Europe.

and about the camera… it’s really a great little thing, packed with plenty of automatic shooting modes that can really help you if you don’t know what you’re doing in terms of photography.the build quality seems to be really great (then again I think everything that Samsung makes is great so my opinion might not be the best of all), and I really like the plastic protective thing that comes in the box. the menu is not very complicated and you can easily find every function without even reading the manual. I don’t really like the fact that is has a very short cable and that is doesn’t have a viewfinder, but what compact camera has one these days? one word of advice for potential buyers : the camera is really small!!! so if you have “sausage fingers” like I do, you will find it difficult to push some buttons.

but when it comes to value for money, Samsung ES71 is in a class of it’s own!

Although the USB cable is a bit short, it doubles up as the charger lead too, meaning that you don’t have to search for another lead when it needs charging. The photo quality’s good and it comes with a neat scratch proof cover for the front which is handy. Would def. recommend it.

Brilliant!, 11 Jun 2008

The review before mine, which isn’t a review at all and just gives viewers of this item a bad start by thinking its only a one star, is very unfair.

This clock is lovely, I bought it for my GF and put pictures of us in all of the picture slots.

It’s a good size too, its not overly big but the pictures a good size as to not dominate the wall.

Deffinately a 5 Star Product with good ingenuity.

I initially found this item on HUK deals website and couldnt believe how low priced it was, I was expecting something not so good quality and was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived, its a great shade of silver and holds 12 fair sized photos (Which I have ordered all in black & white). Its not a fault but I suppose if you wanted a precise time it could be a bit diffult to work out, never the less its a fab ornate display and looks great in the living room!

This review is from: Sony DPFA710B 7 Inch LCD Photo Frame (Electronics)

This is an excellent LCD frame from a major manufacturer. It has a number of features that certainly a year ago would have been regarded as high-end options. Plus points are:

1. Inbuilt memory so you don’t have to buy a memory card (but note storage space is limited)

2. A USB/multi memory card slot so if you do want to load more photos onto the frame you’ve a lot of options on how to do it

3. A remote control to turn the frame on and off and select menu options

4. An in built timer so you can set the frame to come on and turn off at set times

5. A wide variety of slid show options so you can view pictures in a variety of ways and chose how the pictures change

6. Auto-orientation so the frame automatically displays photos on landscape or portrait

And finally the picture is pretty good as well. Good colours, good resolution and a fairly bright display. At the price an excellent Sony product.

Great and simple, 12 Nov 2010
By
BOYMS (Derbyshire, UK) – See all my reviews

This review is from: Sony DPFA710B 7 Inch LCD Photo Frame (Electronics)

After hankering after a digital photo frame for a while I stumbled across this one on special offer – not a lot off, but worth a try! Anyway, it arrived and my first impression was how smart it looked with it’s piano black finish and slimline depth. Plugging it in and inserting the SD card straight out of my camera was the next step and “bingo”… a very clear image appeared on the screen, and I mean very clear, stayed for almost 10 seconds before the next image appeared. Clearly the default setting was a slideshow and after pushing a few buttons on the remote control handset (supplied) I was straight in to ‘navigating’ around the menu with great ease – it was so logically simple – rotating images, pausing the slideshow, scrolling through the images, you name it! The same can be done from the back of the picture frame which I think is useful if you lose, break or can’t be bothered with the remote. Another thing I like about this frame is that if you rotate the unit from ‘landscape’ to ‘portrait’, a sensor inside realises you’ve done this and rotates your image accordingly. The other ‘little’ nice touch is the small SONY logo that appears at the bottom of the picture frame… a tad ‘anal’ I know, but quirky and, in my opinion, doesn’t look too intrusive or cheesy.

Good features but poor picture quality, 27 Nov 2010
This review is from: Sony DPFA710B 7 Inch LCD Photo Frame (Electronics)

The frame comes with lots of features such as, a remote control, lots of display settings, and an orientation sensor. However, I found the picture quality was much poorer than I’d expected. Also, it’s worth knowing that if you want to link to a computer it appears you need to buy your own USB cable.

I’ve decided to send it back and order a Kodak EasyShare P725 7 inch high-resolution Digital Photo Frame, with 4000 image storage capacity – Black which Amazon are currently selling for a few pence less (as at 27/11/10). The Kodak frame has fewer features but a higher resolution so in theory should provide a better picture quality. Hope this help!

Bargain price for top branded card, 24 Oct 2008

Just how cheap can this memory get ?

I am using this card in my Kodak Z1015 HD video capable digicam, the card is fast enough to cope with HD video to be continuously streamed to the card, I recently shot a continuous 29 min video with no problems whatever (8GB would have given me much longer)…it seems just great

This card is classified as a “class 2″, which means that it must have a minimum write speed of 2 megabites per second, this seems fast enough for my purposes, other cards are classified at class 4 (4 mb/s min) or class 6 (6 mb/s min), so its not the fastest, but it seems fine for video

Just a note though….make sure that the device that you plan to use this card with is SD HC compatible as some older devices wont recognise this card

I am sure that memory will get even cheaper, but this seems like a great price to me, high street retailers often charge three or four times this price…Sandisk is a well known brand name too…great value

I bought this card to partner my Canon 450D. It works a treat and is a competitive price. I was going to get one for my digital photo-frame too but held off as it was unclear whether the SDHC would work in the photo-frame. I tested it and it does. I have now ordered a second one for the photo-frame. Very pleased.
