Really good value set, 3 Nov 2010
This review is from: Toshiba 19AV713B 19-inch Widescreen LCD TV with Freeview and HD Ready (Electronics)

Having looked at many products in equally as many stores I decided on the 19AV from Amazon. I already have a 37″ Toshiba LCD which I’m totally impressed with so I was confident to go with their current small screen offering.

Typically it arrived quickly using super saver and was in perfect condition.

The TV was simple to set-up and within moments I had access to all the Freeview channels I’d expect. The 720p resolution is perfect for the bedroom and is HD ready should I decide to connect to Sky’s HD channels in future but with standard resolution broadcasts the picture is perfect.

Unlike some of the own brand I’ve seen on the high street I bought this TV as it has 2 HDMI connections to take a bluray player or games console. I did connect my bluray player to test the connections and the picture was excellent as I’d expected.

I liked the USB functionality which I think will be useful if I need to look at pictures off a USB stick in future.

Overall 5/5 from me for this cracking little TV.

This review is from: Toshiba 19AV713B 19-inch Widescreen LCD TV with Freeview and HD Ready (Electronics)

I bought this TV to go in my kitchen. My old set was fine but it had a separate Freeview box which had suddenly decided to start rebooting itself at random times, usually during say the big reveal at the end of an Agatha Christie film (“and the murder was…” Blink!) so I decided to get an all-in-one set, and this one was perfect.

Once the box is opened you’ll find the TV swathed in wrappings and two chunks of polystyrene, a simple but pleasing remote control (with batteries), a power lead, and a thin instruction leaflet. With regard to connectivity the specification outlined on Amazon is accurate, but it doesn’t say that there is also a single scart socket. The controls for the set are on the right-hand edge, and there is an attached base which can be swung into position, locked to prevent movement, or removed to allow wall mounting.

Switch the set on and it enters setup mode. It asks a few simple questions, tunes itself into the Freeview channels, and a couple of minutes later it’s all done. You can press the menu key at any time and retune if desired, and there are a plethora of settings you can fiddle with regarding sound, screen, software updates and so on.

The screen is lovely, providing a crisp, bright image, and the sound is clean and clear, but if you find it a little tinny you can boost the base or alter the treble.

All in all it looks great, works well, and was a bargain at the price. A great set for the kitchen or bedroom.

Great Toshiba TV, 11 Nov 2010
This review is from: Toshiba 19AV713B 19-inch Widescreen LCD TV with Freeview and HD Ready (Electronics)

This TV replaces a 20 year old 14″ panasonic which had given terrific service as our only TV so was anxious about this new one. No need to have been, this Toshiba was a dream to set up with excellent picture and sound. Amazing value for money. Also can’t get used to how little space it takes up compared with the old one which was 15″ deep !!

5 Stars – Highly recommended, 22 Sep 2010
By

This review is from: Toshiba 37RV753B 37-inch Widescreen Digital LCD TV with Full HD 1080p and Freeview HD (Electronics)

Having owned this few a few weeks I though I would share my impressions. When I initially set the TV up I was blown away at the difference between my old 32″ LCD and this, what struck me the most was that the colours were very natural and not over saturated, blacks were deep but retained detail and definition and motion tracking was very clear showing no signs of jittering or blurring moving images (in particular football).

Well a month later and the 37RV is still bringing a smile to my face. The AutoView technology automatically adjusts picture settings depending on room lighting and the light sensor constantly adjusts the backlight giving a constant image depending on varying light conditions.

One of the main reasons I settled on this model was the built-in Freeview HD tuner. I wasn’t disappointed – the high definition broadcasts on BBC HD, ITV1 HD & Channel 4 HD all look great, with nice, vibrant colours, deep blacks, and great picture clarity. The TV does an excellent job of up scaling the non HD channels.

Having looked at many makes other than Toshiba I am extremely happy with this purchase as the design and technology offered by my TV is far in advance of the very competitive price that I paid for it.

I’d highly recommend this TV to anyone.

Fantastic Toshiba, 23 Sep 2010

Mr P Marshall (FARNBOROUGH, Hampshire United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

This review is from: Toshiba 37RV753B 37-inch Widescreen Digital LCD TV with Full HD 1080p and Freeview HD (Electronics)

After looking at the many 5 star reviews on the smaller 32RV753 I decided to buy this larger TV from Amazon.

The picture on this television is fantastic. I was persuaded to go down the route of Freeview HD and I’m not disappointed. Picture quality for the price is outstanding. The colours are amazing and the clarity even in SD looks great. When you combine this with HD then sports, DVDs and video games have never looked better.

The Freeview HD means those not wishing to pay Sky or Virgin subscriptions can still watch BBC HD channel, ITV HD and Channel 4HD (with more to follow) in stunning High Definition.

The HD picture from the internal Freeview HD tuner is amazing. The standard definition is good, but the TV does a fantastic job of getting the best out of what is provided.

The sound is fine for every day use, but like most I run through a surround sound system which adds another dimension. The menu system is logical and is very easy to set-up out of the box.

My parents have bought many Toshiba products in the past and have always rated the quality and this product looks to continue with great features at a great price.

Good TV…..with one very annoying fault, 23 Nov 2010
This review is from: Toshiba 37RV753B 37-inch Widescreen Digital LCD TV with Full HD 1080p and Freeview HD (Electronics)

Upon receipt of this TV, I was very pleased with my purchase. Picture was clear, EPG very well laid out, sound was perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately though, their appeared to be a fault with the LCD panel. It ‘buzzes’ when in auto-view or indeed in any other mode, if the back light is set below the 90s. Turning the back light right up alleviated this problem, but the buzz would return whenever the screen displayed a dark image. The buzz is not terrible loud, but it is constant, and once you know it is there, it is very difficult to detune your ears to it.

Having spoken to Toshiba, they assured me it was a fault with the unit, and that I should request a replacement. To their credit, Amazon did a marvellous job of sending out a new TV, and collecting the old one. Unfortunately the replacement unit did exactly the same thing, so it had to go back for a refund.

Five stars for Amazon, and their fantastic customer service. Three stars for this TV, which is a shame, as without the buzzing fault, it would be a cracker. If you want to buy a TV in this range, I believe that the 32″ and 40″ versions do not have the buzz, as it is probably down to the 37″ LCD panel that Toshiba have used (but don’t quote me on that!)

Konig Digital Freeview Scart Receiver

Posted by Notcot on Nov 18, 2010 in Home Cinema & Video

Identify a spare scart socket on your television and push the adaptor fully into it. Connect the remote extender to the adaptor and locate it at the front or side of your tv, it has a sticky pad. This allows the remote control to operate the Freeview adaptor even though it is behind your television. Connect your aerial cable to the aerial socket on the adaptor. Finally plug in the mains power supply and connect the DC lead to the power socket on the adaptor. Select the appropriate AV mode of your television and use the remote control to set up the Freeview adaptor and do a service scan.
** Also use this adaptor to convert a VCR or DVD recorder to receive and record Freeview channels.
**There is 3.5mm stereo jack socket for audio output. This means you can feed the audio signal from the adaptor to your existing amplifier if you have a TV without speakers or a home cinema system. This feature is not included on any other Freeview boxes of this type on the market.

  • The receiver is suitable for the reception of all free-to-air signals
  • 1000 TV and Radio channels. Unit plugs into scart and is hidden from view!
  • MPEG-2 digital & fully DVB-T compliant
  • Remote Control. 8 Favourite lists. Teletext, EPG, subtitling
  • Super small design, the main unit measures only 100mm x 52mm x 25mm
