maybe I didnt read the product description properly, but didnt realise it was self assembly including the wiring! also the plastic part that the light shines through (to create the stars) is put together with double sided sticky tape so doesnt have the best finish and sometimes gaped.

the bulb inside is quite weak so it needs to be pretty much pitch black to get a good star coverage. i bought it to potentially have on a diner table but its not bright enough for that – probably better in a bedroom at night.

I do like this but there are some downsides, you have to put it all together yourself and that can be a pain, even the electronics! took me best part of an hour to figure some of it out, but the instructions arent too bad.

so i wouldnt buy it as a gift, the recipient might be a bit dissapointed to know how much work is involved before they even try it out.

and then theres the bulb, im guessing you perhaps get a brighter bulb, but with the standard one its not particuarly bright, you would need a very dark room, bascially pitch black to see them.

having said all that its fun and not too expensive if you can put up with the negatives :)

wanted this for ages and was given it as a present but putting it together was a pain in the butt!

i didn’t have any of the screws and it kept not working because the battery points kept slipping down and weren’t touching the batteries.

also i’m going to get a brighter bulb because you can barely see it. however i’m mindful of how i’m going to get the new bulb in as it was a struggle to get the star bit over the bulb bit….

but other than this, i’m very excited about using it!!

Bob:

Taurus is visible in the Northern Hemisphere winter night sky (which I noted in the description above). It is already above the horizon after sunset facing East/Southeast. It will be high in the sky at 9pm facing due South.

It is visible in the Southern Hemisphere summer night sky.
Look due North not far above the horizon at 9:30pm local time.
