This is really one to avoid! The cable is so weak it breaks! The storage box exacerbates the problem as it effectively folds the cable over causing the plastic to crack. I’ve had 2 of these replaced now. Apple’s suggested solution was to put a bit of tape around it. I’m not sure that’s the kind of answer I will ever accept!

I bought this as a natural add on for the Mac Air though it is not the cheapest external drive to purchase. Given that laptop’s absence of an internal CD/DVD drive if you are a road warrior, this was a necessary piece of equipment, which was nice and light and the size of a CD case so little extra to carry.
But alas, the drive will only work with the Air USB port and given the Air has only one USB port means you cannot even use it with a USB portable hub. The result is thus this can only be used in isolation and any other items needing USB access have to be used separately – an amazingly simple design glitch by Apple!

The Macbook Air dvd drive only works with the macbook air as the Air. If you have a Macbook Air and find you need a DVD drive occasionally or frequently you cant really go too wrong. Its a cheap (for its size) well designed dvd drive that easily slips into your bag.

I have not hand any problems with this super drive and I find it does exactly what it needs to do. As long as you look after it you won’t have any problems with the cable either.
