This item is a complete rubbish. I ordered a brand new one from Amazon. When I turned it on it worked for 10 sec and than froze. I never managed to turn it on again.
I understand this issue happened to lots of other customers – so BEWARE OF GARMIN. It’s got some nice functions that similarly priced TomTom doesn’t have (broad map coverage, live warnings, Bluetooth). The problem is: how good are the extras when the device just doesn’t work???
All in all: I returned GARMIN and will go for TomTom instead…

Unit worked OK for two months. Neat appearance but maps and directions don’t seem as user-frindly as Tom Tom.
Unit just died whilst in use yesterday. I await to see level of assistance available.

Love the satnav. Some concern that the screen would be too big, but the slimline form means you just get the benefit of the screen size without cluttering your dash.

A very user friendly unit; easy to operate & with quick response. The added facilities of hands free telephone & FM TMC traffic message channel makes it very useful indeed.

Getting straight to the problem, had the unit three days and it switched off and would not come back on. I sent it back for a replacement. Received the second unit and it did exactly the same thing after a couple of days, so sent it back for a re-fund. I’m left very disappointed and not knowing whether to go for the 1690 model or forget it and go for a TOMTOM. I initially bought Garmin rather than TOMTOM purely because I much prefer the Garmin design.
