I have now had my roadtrip for over a year and I have been delighted on a daily basis.
Take care to understand how the product works, and work the scanner function and presets when you need to. Sometimes you can find a preset which will work faultlessly for weeks and if it doesn’t then find another that does, it’s great!
Sound quality is compromised a tiny amount by this technology, but if you have a good frequency locked in then you will not notice anything amiss from the usual cd playback quality.
Remember the maxim: you get what you pay for. This isn’t a cheap bit of kit but it’s robust and it’s the best design on the market by a country mile.
For a bit of fun, tell your friend to drive ahead or behind you and tune both cars to the working frequency – yes, it really does work in both cars simultaneously!
Also, it’s really important that your lighter socket is on the vertical and not the horizontal. It’s disastrous to try and use this product with a horizontal lighter socket – I’ve tried. If you have this type of socket, go for the RoadTrip that is cabled, it’ll be the better design for your car.

I bought this product a couple of weeks ago because my car stereo does not have an Aux port which I can plug my iPod in to. I was particularly attracted by the SmartScan functionality. However, despite the fact that the product does what is says on the tin, be aware that if you live in a city like London, there are VERY few frequencies available to broadcast to for any consistent period of time. Even using the SmartScan function to pre-set 3 channels at different frequencies will not guarantee that you’ll have uninterrupted play while driving through London.
Keep an open mind.

Ok I’ve had this for roughly 6mths, up until a few weeks ago I would have only have given it 3stars because of random interference and poor sound quality… however since tuning too 106.8 MHz I’m completely blown away absolutely fantastic.
I live in Brighton east Sussex and can drive anywhere along south coast with no interference with CD quality sound, I drove round the M25 circular recently with absolutely no interference…
If you’ve got this tune into 106.8 MHz I’m yet to find anywhere in the south east where this frequency gets interference!!

When I first got this I thought it was great, until I unplugged my Iphone and plugged it back in again, only to find the FM frequency had changed, and this happened every time. Googling the Net I found out this is due to a STUPID European law, apparently to stop pirate radio, yeah right!!!, there’s a good example why we should leave the EU. So I was nearly ready to give it 1 star, but a bit more googling I found out you can put this thing into US or Japan mode :), really easy to do, a bit like making a DVD region free (combination of key presses etc), after doing that it’s a well deserved 5 stars.. :). ps, try googling “griffin road trip eu ja us” on how to get out of EU mode.

Tried soooooo many different products…kensington’s rds transmitter which fell apart after 4 weeks / gear4’s rds transmitter which spat out random frequencies that you couldn’t tune to / belkin’s fm transmitter which has no clips to attach to your ipod so it always falls out…
And now this, plugged its very sturdy lighter connection in, read the instructions, set my own presets and away we go. It just works, broadcast quality is great too with very little break-up compared to other models.
Well done Griffin.
