I can’t believe the price of this Sony product – amazing.
Obviously for a frame of this price there are going to be some pros and cons.
Pros
Looks great plus you have interchangeable frames so you don’t have to have a black frame as you can pick between brown, black and red
Good build quality – you can’t really tell how good this frame looks until you have it out of the box and it feels like it’s been well made
It has an good internal memory so you have store hundreds of pictures on the frame – very useful if you are giving this as a gift for a relative because you can re-load pictures for them
It takes loads of different types of memory cards or memory stick so you can plug in any of them and see your pictures really quickly and easily
There are lots of different ways to view your pictures – single, multiple, with clock, with calendar, etc
Cons
If you want a better frame you need to buy a higher resolution frame from Sony but then the cost of those frames is at least 3 times the price of this one
It doesn’t have an internal battery but I can’t see many frames that do that this ability
No Bluetooth or wi-fi – does anyone use this functionality?
If you want a good present for family then this frame seems to be the answer – especially if you want to send them pictures of grand children or a special event that has happened. It’s also really easy to use so I would recommend this frame for someone who just wants to see their pictures rather than worry about how to use a digital frame.

I like the frame overall. If you have your own memory cards, you can just save images to it then insert the card on the proper slot on the frame and your are set, no need to make folders or special paths for the frame to find. It will not play images from internal and external memory, only one or the other. So when you order it make sure that you get a memory card as well. I’ve had it for about 3 weeks and we only turned it off a couple nights, its been on 24/7 almost the entire time we’ve had it and it shuffles the images well enough to not show the same image twice before all are displayed, or at least that I have noticed. The price was excellent for a Sony product, I got it on sale, but even at regular price is excellent compared to other frames of same size with less memory or features. You can stand the frame vertical or horizontally and the frame knows how to present the picture upright with no input from you.

My wife bought one of these and I think it is pretty good. Ok, so there are better digital photo frames on the market but they cost more. A lot more. Forty quid for a quality brand digital photo frame? That’s pretty cheap.
I guess it depends what you want the frame to do. Ours is showing photos from our wedding and it looks pretty good. Skin tones are ok, colour fine. If I’d wanted to, I could have changed both in photoshop but there wasn’t any need. I didn’t notice the resolution issue which only really shows up if you sit close to the screen and the on-board memory is useful because I hate leaving memory cards in the back.
I’m pretty sure this is the cheapest branded frame around (couldn’t find recognisable names cheaper online) so I’d recommend it. Sony’s got a good reputation as well so I guess if you don’t like it, you could always send it back.

On the page for the Sony D70 frame (Sony DPF-D70 7″ Black Digital Photo Frame – With 256MB Internal Memory) Amazon list this as its successor, but it really isn’t. This has much lower resolution screen (in the spec it just says QVGA) this screen is 480 x 234 (which is very low) the D70 is a much healthier WVGA 800 x 480. This means that the pictures are not sharp and the text/clock displays are very pixelated. This went straight back and we ordered the D70 elsewhere, can’t comment on its other features as it was only out of the box for a couple of minutes, what’s the point in a digital photo frame if the image quality is lousy? If anything the successor to the D70 is probably the much dearer D72, maybe the E in E72 stands for ‘Economy’?

This is the first digital photo frame I have owned. I wasn’t expecting it to be perfect at this price, but wanted to “dip my toe in the water” and see if a digital frame would suit me without spending too much. I knew I would prefer a larger screen, but didn’t want to pay more for something which I thought might be a nine-day wonder.
Overall I’m pleased with it although the image quality is really quite disappointing. I had a spare SD card, so can view photos from that. It’s a shame that a lead to connect it to the PC and transfer images onto the internal memory was not included, but you can copy from the memory card to the internal memory. Only other niggle is that the edge of the frame is not even all the way round, which looks odd to me. The top and bottom edges are the same as one another, as are the left and right, but the sides are wider than the top and bottom.
I think this would be great for a desk as the clock and calendar facilities are very good. The menus give you lots of options for how you want your photos to appear, the slideshow setting has 10 time options ranging from 3 seconds to 24 hours.
I imagine it’s one of the best frames you will find at this price and does the job well, but if you really want to make the most of your pictures and can afford to pay more, I would definitely recommend looking for one with a greater resolution.
