I bought this netbook 2 days ago for my little brother and we’re quite happy with it. Being an owner of the original 8.9″ A150, I have had experience with this kind of netbook and the process of tweaking it. With the bloatware filled Vista it was quite slow, and even removing a lot of it made it feel sluggish. Therfore I installed a full retail copy of Windows 7 onto this netbook, and it is running like a charm. All those freezes under Vista Basic are now gone, and whilst running idle, I am using 400MB less ram which is a definite bonus.
The product title’s 9 hour battery life is very very optimistic and I can assure you under normal circumstances that is pretty much impossible. That being said, I have had it running 7hours straight with lower than normal brightness and wifi/bluetooth off, and just microsoft word and access running. So for battery life I can definitely vouch for it to some point.
The 11.6inch HD screen is very nice, and looks great when the brightness is turned up. However on a lower brighness, it looks pretty standard. I have succeeded in running 720p video on it, but I have found that streaming HD is not possible without some form of hiccup – be it audio or visual. That being said, when running a video from the HDD, the playback is fine. I use the K-Lite codec pack standard edition and I found that in this rare case; Windows Media Player actually plays smoother than Media Player Classic. So putting it bluntly, if you get the netbook try a few media players before you conclude that playback is poor.
The A150 had speakers on the bottom which meant sound was muffled quite badly. Again this model has them on the bottom, but the slight incline due to the 6-cell battery means sound is better. With earphones, its great.
The keyboard was also a bit of a surprise. When I first used it, it felt strange but I have quickly warmed up to it. In fact, in just 2 days this netbook has become my chosen platform over my more powerful laptop and desktop.
Finally I want to mention the processor. It is listed as 1.22GHz, Windows 7 lists it as 1.33GHz. Either way… its not awesome. Clearly there are going to be issues since its computing power is quite low. I have found that installations of programs take longer than expected, but once they are on, its like using a normal computer. Obviously multitasking isn’t the best idea, but I have found that a browser, winamp, access 2003 and word 2003 running simultaneously is just fine. But do remember this is a NETbook, i.e. it isn’t meant to be a desktop replacement in any way. If you are looking for a lot of power, video editing capabilities etc, then this is not the machine for you. For anything else, i.e websurfing, facebook, media player, office tasks, uni work… its just fine and at £250 a bargain in my opinion.

Screen: 4/5 (Bit reflective sometimes)
Keyboard: 5/5
Preinstalled OS: 2/5 (Vista preinstall is always bad, Id suggest a clean install of it or switch to Windows 7 which has a better graphics driver)
Sound: 3/5: (Earphones/Headphones are much better to use)
Processor: 4/5

This is a great product. I purchased this for my travels working in Europe. It has a large memory and is ideal for storing films etc to watch in my work downtime!
Light and easily portable.
I have never used windows vista and some say it’s difficult to use and not so good. Well, I have had no problems with it and is just fine for my work.
The netbook itself is well made and has a great size keyboard for easy typing.
One thing, it’s a shame it does not have a facility for a sim card, but then a cell phone dongle would do the same job I suppose!
If you need a netbook you will not go far wrong with one of these, especially with the larger 11′ screen.

What a great netbook i got one of these for xmas (mines red) and i must say i was well impressed, one downfall is vista i hate it with a passion so i decided to install xp on it then windows 7 ultimate which runs better than i expected on the tiny atom cpu. All in all a great netbook just the software lets it down

Ordered this with Vista BIG MISTAKE, should have ordered with XP. so I had to install Windows 7 , after sorting that its a great little netbook. Those considering this must be aware that this is NOT a laptop so it will not handle numerous open programmes but If you want internet access, emails working with Office and to watch a movie on a plane/train then this will more than do the job. Great looking unit and very light to carry.
Friend of mine ordered with XP and his was fine, this unit should never be offered with Vista
