This simple to use device allowed me to retrieve trouble code P0560 from a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser diesel. You can also clear the codes if you wish and verify the VIN. First check your car handbook / manual that it is OBD II compliant. If it is this will work. The application list covers the following:

1.2001 and newer petrol vehicles sold in European Union

2.2004 and newer diesel vehicles sold in European Union

3.Vehicles sold in USA from ’96 onwards Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, all other Asian and European that are OBD II.

The instruction book explains all the codes. It is powered by the car battery. You can spend £100 on one if you want but this does the job for around £20. I am very pleased with this.UNIVERSAL CAR DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER CODE READER OBD2 + CAN

I bought this unit to discover why my engine light had come on. I was unsure after hearing stories about cheap clone micro chips.

Its not fancy or filled with extras, but if you want to know what the fault code is, turn off the engine light, then this is for you. I have a Ford Fiesta 1.25 2003 – and it did what is said it would. I was very happy with it. Saved some money on diagnostic tests at the garage!

The U480 will not read any car made by parent company General Motors. I have a 2002 Saab 93 which like all GM cars requires the GM Tech II computer to read faults. I have had three different engine light faults and all the U480 displays is “N/A 01/01″ for every fault. The instruction manual states that a N/A code means “The monitor is not supported on that vehicle”. The product decription is misleading as this scanner will not work on the vehicles that it describes.

This item is basic but good value for money. It will read most cars but not all. It displayed my fault number and I found and repaired and then used the clear fault mode. All good – worked first time. The booklet (instructions) are easy to understand and contain hundreds of codes and fault descriptions. I am satisfied with this product.

Negative points before you buy. (1) this item gives basic static data. If you require live data (ie engine misfire on number 2 above 3000 rpm) this is not going to give you that information. That is going to cost several hundreds of pounds or even more.

(2) My reader only gives some of the VIN number. Also it won’t read some cars at all – I doubt it thats important to most people. but if your going to buy a second hand car it might not give the VIN confirmation you need.

(3) I have used readers costing £2500 with an annual update cost of £500 per year. They tell you live data and are much more comprehensive. You get what you pay for. This is basic and low cost, it displays codes and clears them. A good DIY product. Check it will work on your car by going on the internet. I am happy with mine.
