According to the Panasonic web site, if one uses any other battery other than the Panasonic DMW-BCG10E ID Secured Battery for the Lumix TZ7 camera, with the current pre-installed firmware 1.2, it simply will not work. Some web sites offering ‘compatible’ batteries for the Lumix TZ7 have now withdrawn them.

The new firmware means that cheaper alternatives wont work in the TZ7 – which Panasonic claim is good for us – those cheaper wicked imitations wont damage your shiny new camera! Yeah right!
The TZ7 is heavy on the battery so you do really need a spare which means biting the bullet and paying the over priced extra for the Panasonic branded one. As another reviewer said, of course it works just fine, it’s just a bit galling paying through the nose – but then life’s too short to worry about an extra £20!

After reading reviews for the TZ7 I decided I would need a spare battery. However reviews made it clear that 3rd party batteries will not be recognised by the latest models of the TZ6 and TZ7. I therefore played safe and opted for the Panasonic battery instead of the much cheaper 3rd party battery.

I bought this battery for my TZ7 as so many reviews said the battery life of the camera was poor and you need a spare. Well, the battery life is not that bad in my opinion, but its nice to have a spare anyway.
It’s the official battery so it works great. It would be nice if it wasn’t so expensive, but as only Panasonic make their official battery I guess they don’t have much competition.

Of course it works just fine but it is very pricey for what it is and I fell for the “always use genuine parts” thing.
