So here’s what I got …

- Really fast delivery from TechNet, great!

- Decent build quality for the money.

- A way of turning a spare computer monitor to a LCD TV, which is nice.

- An analogue tuner that works.

- Instructions and box details which are hilarious, being translated from the Chinese. However they were enough to get the thing working.

Here’s what you don’t get …

- An MMI YPbPr cable as per the description on Amazon. What you DO get is an AV connection (i.e. yellow for video, red and white for audio). Shame, because they should really supply both in my opinion. The quality is better through YPbPr, if you have a source that gives you that option. Looking on Amazon USA, it seems that a similar box there does come with both. I bought one on Amazon Marketplace and that costs about £7 inc postage (“ClimaxDigital MMI Component (YPbPr) Input Cable”)

- Picture quality you’d expect from a real TV – it’s simply not as good, but it’s okay. As a spare TV it’s not too bad. There’s a fair amount of colour ‘bleeding’.

- Acceptable sound from the built in speaker. It’s far too tinny by any standards. Good news is that you can use the line out to run the sound through something else and it sounds great.

- Teletext. Unless I’m missing something …

Like many others, I didn’t buy this to use the TV tuner as such – in fact I have a poor Analogue reception, so I can’t judge how good it is in truth … it seems a bit worse than my ordinary TV, but I’m comparing a bad signal with a bad signal.

What I did buy it for is to use it with video games and a freeview box. With both of those it seems reasonable enough … as long as you don’t expect the same picture quality you’d get from a proper TV. With the YPbPr inputs via the cable you have to buy separately, it comes quite close.

So, don’t expect too much from this and you’ll get a decent bit of kit. Watching a DVD through the YPbPr or running a Wii through it, (again with a yet further cable needed) was pretty good. Whether it’d be great for watching analogue TV, I can’t really say.

Apart from the TV tuner (which is brilliant in its own right). If you want a device that converts S-Video or Composite video to VGA this is it!

No need for costly convertors as this little piece of kit will do it all for you.

Highly recomended. There is a also a freeview version available which you will need soon when the terestrial channels are turned off in favour of digital

A+++ device

The device was simple to setup with the given instructions. I am using this for a 42″ Philips plasma screen. The picture quality when using the intergrated DVB tuner is good, however, using the input for phono jacks does not produce as good picture although is still acceptable. The remote control has a slower response time than the average but was ok in setting up system, however, it would annoy most when using it ona frequent basis. I decided to use my other freeview box so that I would not have to use this remote to avoid this! For the price, I feel this is worth it!

This product was so much smaller than I expected and in fact I think it looks quite good. It works well, ps2 to my screen works fine at uni, although when the picture is still for some time colours can bleed, eg the loading screen on gran turismo 4, however when racing it looks fine, its not a tv but there is certianly no problems at all, teken tag and mashed also look good.

This is a really good buy seeing as I’ve had loads of old monitors lying around, and all for only £29.00. The quality isn’t fantastic, but its definitely watchable [Although this may just be down to need of my fine tuning in the menu though!]. I can now watch freeview from my external box, through the Gadmei box and into the spare monitor on my bedside!

Delivery was really quick too, seeing as Amazon estimated the delivery time to be a fair few days after I actually got it [Ordered Tuesday, got it on Friday.]
