This connected easily to my wireless, is a breeze to set up, and easy to use. One touch scan to network folder is great, and flexibility is very good – copy 1 sided document to 2 sided, with 2 pages on each side, and then print in draft mode! saves a lot of paper / time / ink.
The only bit you need to install on computers is the printer driver, every thing else can be set up and managed through a built in web server, so you can access from any machine.
you can even see how many documents and how much ink each member of your family / business has used!
it is very fast in draft mode, not so fast in 2 sided or colour, however i recommend for any home user that needs scan / fax / copy, and for any business where it will be shared amongst a small team.
You probably still want to go for laser for anything in constant use.
Overall very impressed. Some reviews claim lots of problems installing under Vista, however no problems for me there either.
a few very minor niggles: it is easy to touch the wrong thing on the touch screen as it seems to not be as accurate as it might be, but you soon learn to be careful when pressing. it is not clear how to set it up to go into standby after a defined time, it does seem to after a while anyway.

Connected the printer via wireless to a network to share with a desktop and two laptops.
The Mac found it straight away and works like a dream.
The only way to get it to be discovered and installed on the Windows machines is to install the AWFUL bloated software that “manages” the device. Oh! And provides links to HP sales and products…….
This kept crashing on the Windows XP machines blanking out the wireless connectivity to the network and internet. After a couple of frustrating days of uninstalling and installing I eventually uninstalled the HP monitor and now it seems to work ok.
Again, the software that “manages” the device cannot see it as connected for anything more than a couple of seconds over a wireless connection before it gives you a message saying the device is not connected. The whole idea of being a wireless printer – I thought.
The only way I found to actually manage the printer is to connect to it across the network using a web browser and its network IP address.
So, a brilliant printer!
But, bloated, annoying, over engineered, under tested, unnecessary software……………

I bought this thinking it was the best thing since sliced bread – it looked like it would deal with all of our home and office requirements in one machine. After a lengthy set up process I did a test colour print and it worked fine. The next day, a “clear paper jam” message appeared even though there was no paper jam. Nothing would unblock the message, and on closer inspection of feedback on this and other sites I discovered that this is a common problem. And there are lengthy (and very helpful) explanations about not only the problem but subsequent problems that second and third machines of the same type had, not to mention the difficulty in getting any timely or helpful customer service out of HP. So on the back of all of that we decided to quit before we went grey. Very disappointed.

I am a real HP printer fan and bought this 8500 wireless from Amazon a few weeks back. Once it was switched-on it had a really loud high-pitched noise. It was impossible to work in the same room as the printer.
I had to return it but Amazon and HP were very helpful in replacing it.
I just received the replacement unit and set it up – incredibly it too has the same noise! It is not quite as bad as the first unit but there is no way I can keep it. With all of the time and cost of set-up, getting approval to return it, packing, and arranging shipping back to Amazon I don’t think I will take a chance again on the same unit – shame because it has a lot of great features.
Hope this post helps you.

HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Multifunction Printer, Copier, Scanner and Fax with Touch-screen LCD Display
The first two bought and returned to another Internet seller with exactly the same error message of ‘paper jam’ each time though no such jam had occurred. Encouraged by good reviews persisted and gave Amazon a try for a third one and had exactly the same error message again. It is going back on Friday. On the first occasion, I was informed, eventually, after a 40 minute conversation with HP technician in South Africa (0845 number of course) that this particular error message meant the printer was beyond remedy from a distance. But helpfully offered a refurbished item as replacement! Buy at your peril
